I don't buy Theo's rationale! If it was about defense at short and first, what about Reese at short and McCarty at first. If you are going to trade Normar, get PITCHING. We aready have two guys on the roster that are great defensively and will hit .250 .... It's pitching that wins championships and we need a solid #3 behind Pedro and Schilling. We can't count on Lowe, Wakefiled will give us innings but isn't a #3 guy and Arroyo is still unproven. It made sense to trade Normar because we weren't going to sign him after the year. But Theo could have done a lot better!

To bad the Sox couldn't work it out with Fred Lynn, oops I mean Mo Vaughan, oops I mean Nomar. Sound familiar...well the results will be more of the same, bye bye Boston. And those hated Yankees...they probably did even better in the short and long term by getting Loaiza than Randy Johnson. Loaiza only won 21 games last year and the Yankees get rid of a bad deal in the form of Jose Contreras, how do we say World Series #27 and counting?

They had to move Nomar but I would have prefered pitching to a first baseman. Its ok but not as good as I would have liked - I sure would have liked Clement.

Nomar Garciaparra is a Hall Of Famer. I hate to see him go and this is undoubtedly one of the saddest days in Red Sox team history. However is this a good trade? On the outside it is not however as Theo Epstein said the team is "his reponsibility". He will live and die by this trade. If This trade helps the Red Sox go deep into the playoffs or perhaps propels the Red Sox to their first World Series, we will not hear any rumblings of the trade. Yet if the Sox do not make the playoffs or fall flat on their face, this will not look good. Trading Nomar to the Cubs is the defining moment of Theo Epstein's Career. Good Luck Theo

I think the Red Sox did a terrible job geting rid of Nomar. They should of at least sealed him for Matt Clement and Cabrera but instead they dont. They already got a good first basemen David who just needs to work on his bat and he'll be very good. And I'm still mad they didnt trade Derek Lowe.

Great trade, Nomar was disgruntled and needed to go for his benefit as well as the teams. This trade dramatically improves their infield defense which was their worst flaw, now we need to work on a right fielder w/ bat and possibly another starter.
