No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

Loved nomar, just saw his last interview with the media. he looked very sad... nomar is a bosotn guy... we should have traded Francona...

As sad as it is to see Nomar go, a good move for the Sox. At best, it's a 50/50 that the Sox would have resigned him...his health is questionable..and after his antics against the Yankees it's questionable as to how much his heart is still in the organization. Sox are hurting on defense, and Mik and Cabrera are two guys to improve on that.

Wow this hurts. I know it's the smart move, but this really hurts. Nomar has been loyal. I love seeing a player come up through the system and play so well. I know he's been hurt lately and his defense has suffered, and I know he's breaking the bank... money Theo could be using to resign Lowe and get his mind back in the game, and others. We give up about .100 in batting but gain in defense. I trust Terry and Theo... don't let this come back to bite us. My hunch is that we'll be pitching to Nomar in the WS... I said "hunch"...

The good the bad and the ugly. The good is for the Cubbies and the Sox only get bad and ugly out of this one. Losing Matt Murton is really where the Sox lose and he was a future star of Fenway. Theo really blew this one, they should've gotten a minor leaguer instead of giving away Murton. Maybe this will be good for the defense in the moment, but next year and beyond it is an atrocious deal.

sad! sad! day! as of today, I'm a cubs fan. i don't think, I'll ever go to a sox game again.

This deal sucks. How do they get better? They could have picked both guys up for free on waivers in August. Good job Theo

Nomar was NOT coming back to Boston in 2005. So why not trade him now and get someting...anything in return. It appears that the Sox defense has improved with the trade (one of the worst teams when in it comes to UNEARNED runs). Only time will tell if these players work out offensively.....

The final game of the Yankee series in New York made was the icing on the cake, this club needed a lift/jolt mentally, and Nomar wasn't helping, maybe hurting. This trade should help the club, and Nomar. Sad to see him go on these terms.

I LOVE this deal. Nomars time here was over, lets face it. His heart wasn't in it and he wasn't going to resign here anyway. He turned down 15 Million per year in the offseason and right then and there we knew he didn't want to be here after his contract ran out. In addition, his play in the field was horrible, and he was turning into a whiner and a cancer in the clubhouse. In return we got two former Gold Glove infielders on a team that has been playing horrendous defense, just ask Derek Lowe. The sox lead MLB in unearned runs allowed. Nomar hasn't been the same since 2001anyway, I say good riddance, although all of the 14 year old girls in Boston will be heartbroken!!!

Sean, Framingham

No. For Nomar they picked up a short stop(good but not as powerful with the bat), two prospects, and a first baseman. Millar has been hitting the snot out of the ball the last few weeks. Why another first baseman?..Where is the pitching? The Red Sox need pitching. Dereck Lowe's record is 9 and 9. If you focus on those games that were lost while he was pitching, the Red Sox would be in ahead of the Yankees by two games.
