No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

Thank goodness the sox finally dumped Garciapopup, Mr. and Mrs. Hamm will be much happier in California next season anyway. The sox hurt Nomars feelings by trying to trade him in the offseason.....Hey Nomar, theres no crying in Baseball.

Sean, Framingham

offense not an issue for the sox however, defense most certainally is. pitchers have to be thrilled! NO hard feelings Nomar, thanks for the memories. like freethrow's in basketball, defense counts.

Doesn't anyone remember that Nomar turned down 60 million bucks???!!! I too am sad to see him go but I don't think he wanted to be here. Who turns down that much money?? There is no way he could get that anywhere else!!

Kris, Pawtucket

I think this is a terrible deal for the Sox. They get two average players (both who are having lousy seasons), now have to find a place for Kevin Millar in the field, and lose the team leader and someone who never quits on the field? I don't see this as a good deal at all.

Todd , Arlington, VA

An excellent deal! Nomar hasn't performed as well as expected this year. So time to clear out the dead wood and make room for players that want to compete and want to win. I don't think it will be long before we see Pedro gone also.

Joe, Quincy

I think the Red Sox made a big mistake trading Nomar. They hould have signed him in the off season, also Lowe and Veriteck. They are all trying to play ball with their future uncertain in Boston They might have a good defensive shortstop but his batting average is way below Nomars. Bad Deal

Paul, Billerica

Now all they have to do is get Pedro to be consistent, Schilling to stop thinking he's the team captain, Varitek to act like a real man and take his mask off next time, and Francona to go back to the minor leagues with a case of tobacco.

Bob, Medford

We just traded a one-in-a-million all-star for who!? I think we'd be better off with current management gone. The way Nomar was treated was appalling, and inept.

Rick, Kyle

I think that this trade will rank up there with the Bambino. This was a bad move by Theo, all of Red Sox nation should be ashamed of him and should contact him personally and show their disguest.

Tom, Freeport

I am beside myself. I can't believe the Red Sox traded Nomar Garciaparra. He is the best shortstop we have had in a long, long time. He really pulled the team together and the Red Sox really disappoint me. If anything they should have traded Derek Lowe and got a better pitcher. Pitching is our down point, not shortstops!!!
