The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

Page 2 i think its sad he is leaving... but it also helps out on Boston's defensive wise i mean we are getting 2 Good Infield Players.. But yet again we are losing a very good players both ways at batting and on defensive wise.. we will have to wait and see how we do and Hope its for the best.. Nomar Hope yu have a very good rest of the year in chicago Maybe we will see you again in the world series Good Lock Man.. we will all miss you... RIP Nomar Garciaparra 1997-2004 Justin , Putnam Ct I have a sick feeling in my stomach. Nomar is one of the hearts and souls of the Red Sox, and trading him for another shortshop is ridiculous. Its a shameful day for Red Sox nation. Jeff, Dorchester The Sox are definately better off. You are talking about bringing two players that are going to help this team's defense. Also, are you going bring in two players for the price of one. Nomar is making around 11.5 million this year and Mientkiewicz and Cabrera for a total of 8.5 million with a chance to re-sign Cabrera as well as more money available to re-sign other free agents. And how can anyone undervalue team chemistry which has a chance now to be built. Brannon , Crestview/Florida Horrible deal. We all know pitching and defense wins championships. The trade addresses defense a bit, but not the pitching. Sox still face the problem of free agency, and now face a less potent offense. Nomar and Lowe for Cabrera and Clement would've been a much better deal.... Jun NO! How can you trade a 5 time all star and a 2 time batting title winner for an injury prone 1st baseman with no stick and a free swinging shortstop batting 2.30 with 4 HR's and 31 RBI? Sox were going nowhere with Nomar and without him they may finish behind Tampa Bay. GO CUBS!!!!! Stephen, Weymouth IT SUCKS! a.) we certainly don't need another 1st baseman, especially one with this guys stats b.) i hate no hit /all glove shortstops c.) where's the pitcher we needed? d.) derek lowe would hae been better bait for Loiaza than Contreras e.) theo espstein will be out of baseball within 3 years Paul R, Natick Trading a .300 lifetime hittter for two guys hitting round .250 this year is not getting value in return. This is an insult to Red Sox Nation. If you were going to trade him how about getting some pitching in return. They are taking advantage of the sell outs and not delivering a qulaity team. I am sure the Yankee brass are salivating as they will empty their wallets to sign Nomar in the off season. John, Oldsmar It All Started Last Year When The Women's Soccer League Shut Down. It Hurt Him. Then The Playoffs Came Around and He never Showed Up. Thanks For Nothing. Then He Gets an offer from the Red Sox Which Was Not Good Enough For Him. He Was Not Going To Sign Here For Less, So The Red Sox Did The Right Thing. Plus They Got Something In return. John, Melrose Personally, I'm sad to see Nomar go and feel that if he performs as Nomar has performed in the past, it's going to bite us in the proverbial ass. Hopefully these new guys' bats will perform to their potential and if not, there will be hell to pay. It's going to be tough to get the guys who are hot hitters into the lineup (ie: Millar). Should be a very interesting game tonight w/Doug M on OUR side. Oh boy...here we go... Jen Definitely, we get better. Our infield defense improves. We now have depth at first (Millar/Mientkiewicz), at second (Pokey/Bellhorn), short (Cabrera/Pokey) and outfield (Millar/Kapler/Nixon, etc.). We get a left handed bat. Sure, Nomar's a great hitter, but there is plenty of firepower in the lineup. Plus, the Yankees stayed the same. They did not improve at all. This trade is easily good for 4 games in the standings. That puts us at 3 games out with this trade. A few games here or there and we take the AL East. Now...if the Cubs beat the Red Sox in the world series. I don't even want to think about that.
