No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

I cannot believe that the Red Sox treated Nomar with such disregard for his accomplishments throughout his carreer. This trade continues an organization-long mistreatment of players and fans. This is similiar to the Roger Clemens "at the end of his prime" gaggle of nonsense. I am sickened by the Red Sox organization. As a lifelong Red Sox fan, I can only say, Go Yankees.

As a die-hard Cubs fan, I have to say thank you Red Sox, and what were you thinking? I have always believed you don't trade superstars, because you can NEVER get what they're worth. When the Edmonton Oilers won Stanley Cups, then traded Gretzky, they fell right off the map. The Sox got some decent players, but how do you replace a .320-something LIFETIME batting average, and Nomar's leadership? The Sox really blew it with the A-Rod debacle, didn't they? First of all, A-Rod might be SLIGHTLY better than Nomar, but why go after a SS when you already have a great SS?!?! And when it got out in public, Nomar's heart wasn't the same. He's going to an organization that will appreciate him, the best manager in baseball, another great city, fans, and ballpark, and a team loaded with talent. If the Cubs can't get to the Series with this lineup . . .

The current Red Sox Hollywood ownership has completed its destruction of the Red Sox team psyche which they began last winter with the ARod fiasco and the messing with Nomar, as popular and dedicated an athlete as you could want--particularly in this nauseating age of professional sports. Way to go Henry, Lucchino, Warner. You have doomed any chance this team had to win.

Still another lousy Red Sox trade. Why a real hitting prospect such as Matt Murton was thrown into the deal is absolutely beyond comprehension. He can be added to the likes of Lew Ford, Jeff Bagwell, Mike Maroth, and Freddy Gonzalez as eleventh hour giveaways for "major leaguers" who have helped the Sox win absolutely nothing of consequence for 86 years.

I have pretty much decided that this is the worst trade I have ever witnessed in my Red Sox fandom. I hear that Larry Anderson was also sent to the Red Sox in this deal as a pitching coach.

This trade has to be put in the context that we would lose Nomar next season no matter what. That being the case the Sox did ok. The ripple effect that he has in the batting order cannot be replaced, nor his popularity and what he means to the fans. Epstein did what he had to do. Now, imagin a Cubs/Sox series......

Nomar rejected a 14 million dollar a year deal. The Sox traded him to get more than 2 draft picks. While a great Fan of Nomar's,I'm dissapointed he wouldn't sign a contract. This Probably now allows the Sox to resign Pedro and Varitek.Lowe goes to free agency and we get Pavano to replace him as a free agent.

Great Trade for the Cubs

I just found out about the trade and immediately had to check out the Globe to confirm this ludicrous trade. HORRIBLE. His presence in the line up isn't going to be filled with two .250 hitters who couldn't hit one out from second base with a fungo bat! Absolutely classless REDSOX. Just like the blown A-rod trade and all its publicity. Shame on you. This is truly a sad day. I'm praying that I eat my words come October.

THis is the stupidest trade in the world -- if they got a quality player -- especially a pitcher-- for Nomar it would make sense...instead they get mediocrity, no help for this year's Series chase...stupid. Better to keep Nomar for rest of the season for a shot at the series than to give him up for chump change......Theo dropped the ball ....
