The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

Page 22 I'm a Red Sox fan living in Chicago. The Northsiders can't be happier getting Nomar. He will be an enormous upgrade for the Cubs. The deal isn't awful for the Sox either although I'm mystified that the Sox must add another player and cash. Mientkiewicz is much better than you think. He'll play stellar defense and will hit better at Fenway. He's a classic Boston Red Sox player. He's so solid defensively that he can play 2nd base. Yes...I've actually seen him do that in the minors and turn double plays with ease. Ask David Ortiz......I don't know much about Cabrera, but looks like a case of buy low, sell high. wstbrook, Chicago, IL Thanks John, Larry, and Theo...you've traded away the best franchise player this team has had since Yaz for a box of cracker jacks...so much for loyalty. Business is business but destroying a team because of your stupid "numbers" game and personal pride is a bunch of bull. You looked stupid before, now you look like jerks. I'll be wearing my cap with shame. I hope Nomar gets his World Series in Chicago. Why don't you guys trade yourselves out of town, you're not good for the team either. If we win this year it will be in spite of all of you. If you're looking for further "business" ventures I hear the theatre is a good investment... Christopher , Santa Monica It's as good as they could get. After 4PM today, you couldnt do anything with Nomar. He'd file for free agency in the off season and be out of here in a flash. It's a fire sale but at least we got a golden glove 1st baseman and got Cabrera out of the Montreal/San Juan Expos JIM , Marlboro Worst trade since losing the Babe. Eric, Brighton The Red Sox wonder why they never win anything. They trade one of the best players in baseball for two stiffs. I wonder when anyone will throw a strike to Manny again. Could you imagine the Yankees trading Derek Jeter. Hey Theo(I mean Larry), we are trying to win THIS YEAR. Remember 1918. Great move. Tom, Winchester It's terrible. Not only did the Sox not get any pitching but they acquired two unknown quantities and gave a huge known quantity. Just watch Nomar start and 2nd base for the Yanks next year. David , Alexandria, Virginia Its ridiculous!! Doug mankiwitcz???? We have Brian Daughbach in Pawtucket! The two players are simmilar. omar cabrerra??? nomar??? Oh man we will be lucky to be .500 after this deal. the sox should have done what was nessacery and got the expos to throw in jose vidro also. Dave Roberts will do just fine in right field. in part time with Kapler. this deal makes us weaker Punchy Pat from Southie, austin I thought that nomar would always stay with the sox forever. He was a good player that they had. He will be missed. Mike, Framingham why do we need another first baseman. we also lose a strong bat. boston should have tried to resign him. bill , auburn, new york Let me see, this new "carpetbagger" ownership have rid them selves of Nomar. In his place we have the "whiz kid" signing Bellhorn, who couldn't play for the Cubs or Rockies. Reese who couldn't make the Pirates. Roberts who had a tough time finding playing time for the Dodger's, and (I can't spell his name) who couldn't start for the twins. This is a Joke on all of us Red Sox fans. I SAY IT WILL BE A FINE DAY WHEN MR. HENRY, AND HIS FELLOW CARPETBAGGERS ARE RUN OUT OF TOWN. HEY RED SOX FANS, THE JOKE'S ON YOU.
