No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

A lot of people are forgetting that Nomar was gone at the end of season. Theo had to get something for him. That being said the Sox did not get what they should have. A star should get a star, or at least two solid starters

Who cares. The Red Sox are never going to win it. Bring on the Pats!!!

This is one of the single worst trades I have seen. Theo Epstein needs to SERIOUSLY explain his reasoning here. Trading Garciaparra for 2 sub par players, and somehow not even getting a pitcher like Clement is INEXCUSABLE. To add insult to injury, apparently Theo felt Boston had to SWEETEN the deal by adding a formere 1st round pick (Matt Murton). These are the kinds of deals that SHOULD get GM's fired.

Trading Nomar is one of the most dumbest deals ever. Whether Red Sox management knows it or not they have just made the chances of the Red Sox getting to the World Series even worse then before. If they wouldnt have ever mentioned trading him at the end of last season maybe dealing with him might have been easier. Congrats goes to the Red Sox management, thanks for everything.....NOT!!!

Idiots! Idiots, idiots, idiots, idiots! An all star hall of fame shortstop, potentially most popular in Red Sox history for a 1st baseman batting mid .200's and a "young promising"infielder. I need to go throw up.

No-arm Garcia-pop-up? Glad that he's gone and hope that he has taken his poisonous attitude with him.

Great deal by Theo.....Nomar was a whiny little baby who was never the same since he was hit by a pitch in 2000. Always blaming the media...and the dumb, stupid, Johnny Come Lately, buy the junk but no nothing about the game Red Sox fans will always let him off the hook for his shotty defense and terrible eye at the plate. I'd take defense over offense any day...if someone like Roberts, along with Damon can set up for Ortiz and Ramirez I anticipate this move makes the Sox a much better club....especially come October.....Where Nomar and his pathetic 2003 Postseason, along with his 1999 Defensive October gaffes cost the Red Sox more then they could have ever imagined. I also believe it proves what newfound Tom Brady Patriot fans have started to realize...Jeter was the better player...because he won, never let his team down, and always did the little things right....Brady does this, and two Super Bowl rings later, I love him for it......And don't miss Bledsoe a bit

Be happy for Nomar! He was the heart and soul of the teams for years. Now, his body language was telling the Sox he wants out! Nomar got his wish-sooner than later. Life goes on, fellow diehgards!!!!!! Nick

It's tough, I have very mixed emotions on this. I believe that he probably wouldn't have come back next year, too many burned(t?) bridges. But would he go out in a blaze of glory and should we reap the benefits of that? Either way, it's a sad day in Boston sports. All I can think of right now is my sons first Sox game when Nomar hit a walk-off home run. Good luck Zazoo, we will miss ya!

Theo may have just made the second worst deal in Red Sox history (Babe Ruth being the obvious number one). Nomar was far from the washed up player everyone made him out to be. In fact, his numbers rivial both player brought in to replace...only difference being he played about half as many games as each. So basicly, the Red Sox have replaced a tough out/one sing change the game type player, with two people who can catch, but do little else... Thanks Theo, we're now further behind the Yanks...I really hope you have a plan for waiver deals
