No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

Bad trade - period. The Sox now have 3(?!) players for SS - Ricky G., Pokey, Cabrera. Why the hell do you need 3 SS on 1 team? This Theo guy needs to really think things through before making another one like this one. Unbelievable...

I think Theo did a great job. Cabrera is better defensively than Nomar and he can RUN!! So what if he is batting .246 this season. Look at the Expo's lineup, it is pathetic. Let's not overlook the fact that Cabrera has hit over 40 doubles in each of the last 3 seasons and was the Expos MVP in 2001 and 2003. I like the trade for David Roberts. This guy hustles on every play and has upgraded the our defense and he can get us that stolen base we need. Mientkiewicz gives the Sox a gold glove man at first and another left handed bat. He has a good average and his defense will save pleanty of runs. Great job Theo, you have improved the ball club and we now have a better chance at winning on the road, thanks to the speed of Roberts and Cabrera. Martin

Yahoo, good bye, good luck, yahoo!

Good trade. He was gone at the end of the season anyway. They just got something for him this time. They just couldn't get as much as your normally would for such an asset like Nomar because EVERYONE knew he was not going to be in Boston anymore and forced the Red Sox hand in this situation. The defense has been disgraceful all season long. This should help and offense is where they could afford to lose some production with this trade.

When I first heard about this my heart sank, but after sitting on it a while it makes sense - at least from a quasi-objective point of view. I loved/love Nomar and wish him success but I think the Sox *can* be better off this season - hopefully, at least, Lowe will benefit. Only question: what does this mean for Millar? He was just starting to come around. I can't handlel the sight of him in right field - I'd almost like him better in center.

While Nomar has been the heart and sole of the Sox for years, it was clear that he no longer was. He is a great player and can still be one, I wish him good luck and thanks for the great memories. That being said, the Sox stack up much better defensively and with Arroyo improving with every outing the rotation is solid from 1 - 5. Pitching and defense wins pennants and Championships...always has..always will. It remains to be seen how the trade will work out...Nomar will be missed but it is time to turn the page.

Nomar will be missed here in Boston. Not only was he a true asset to the Red Sox but, he is a great role mode to the young sox fans. He is one classy guy and will always have a place in Boston's heart. Thanks NOMAHHHHHHHHHH!

Nomar leaving Boston is like trading away Tom Brady. But what needed to be done needed to be done. The Red Sox had gaping holes in their defense and now they have gold glovers at first, second, and shortstop. They added speed and versatility with the addition of Dave Roberts. Though the offense may have taken a hit, without Normar's bat. Red Sox Nation lost a legend in Nomar Garciaparra, but I believe a run at a World Series is even larger than having Nomar staying in Boston.

Another classic Sox bungle. Honestly, this is worth more groans than the Buckner thing. That was a mistake and you had to feel a little bit bad for him. This....is just stupidity. My advice, stop buying the overpriced Sox tickets and go see some minor league ball instead. The players are almost as good and you see more with attitudes like Nomar and Pedro and less of the cocky ones like A-rod or Manny or Carl Everett. Plus, the guy you see tonight with the PawSox might be tomorrow's big star (and next week's big trade.)
