The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

Page 30 As an avid Sox fan my entire life, I was immediately heartbroken when I found out Nomar was traded from one curse to another. Nomar epitimized hard work and in my mind he played for the love of the game, a rarity nowadays. I trust that Epstein and the front office made the right move — Nomar was clearly not coming back and at least the Sox got something — but people will have a hard time convincing me that a couple of .246 batters with gold gloves can replace Nomar Garciaparra. I think most would agree. Good luck Nomar, I'll always root for you. At least he's not on the darn Yankees. Brendan, Tallahassee, FL I tough this trade was horrible. Nomar is one of the best players to wear a sox uniform in the history of the franchise. Cabrera is a free agent at the end of the year anyway so it doesnt make sense to make this deal. They couldve had Nomar for the rest of this year and got Cabrera for next year. Mientkiewicz is no better than david mccarthy so it does not make sense to get him either. I am so upset that they made this trade. I would have liked the red sox to get Clement instead. Joe , Scranton/PA This is a very disappointing trade. Not only do the Sox lose perhaps their greatest shortstop ever, but they did not get a marquee player in return. This is a very disappointing day for Sox fans. Zeke, Silver Spring, MD Thanks for nothing Theo Epstein how you trade Nomar Garciaparra. Shame on you!!!! Nomar started his life with the Red Sox and wanted to make is life in Boston, but Theo Epstein a 24 years old knows nothing about baseball he should got something for Nomar with pitching but got defense instead. He wasted a class act person of Nomar for know thoughings people. Troy, Brooklin, Maine Who is responsible for nomar's leaving? 1. a press corp so anxious for a story and/or a scapegoat, they will run people out of town. nice job, shaughnessy. you will never be in gammons', mcdonough's, or so many other great boston writers' league. hack... 2. shut ins who love to hear themselves talk and are so desparate to do so, they will wait on hold for hours to tell everyone their opinion of derek lowe's most recent outing. losers... 3. front office personnel so detached from the humanity of their players, with little or no concerns for them, making stupid moves. 4. this will go down with: ruth for no, no nanette... sparky lyle for danny cater... bagwell for anderson... nomar for a broken bat and a pair of cleats... 5. yes, #5 thank you for your passion and love for the game thank you for your love of the fans who respected your talents thank you for your charitable work with children thank you for many great baseball moments your parents must be very proud good luck in chicago mikesox724, hartford ct I hope everyone remembers what Nomar meant to this team until the last 10 months. He is one of the most exciting players to ever wear a Red Sox uniform. We all should be thankful for what he has contributed to the Red Sox and their fans... That being said, chances are he was gone at the end of the season. The team appeared pretty listless since the beginning of May. A shakeup was needed. The Sox defense has been improved with this trade. Team speed has been improved. MAybe the Sox will rely less on the 3-run home and more on creating runs. The one big question I have is how well will Mr Francona run this team. TIme will tell. Bob, Bloomfield, CT I hope everyone remembers what Nomar meant to this team until the last 10 months. He has become damaged goods and was not going to return next year any way. It's time to move on and look t o the future. The Sox have piced up 2 Golden Glove defensive players and given time they will adapt well in their new surroundings. Nomar has done alot for Boston and he will be fondly remembered. But for his sake and that of the team it was time for him to move on. RObett, Reading Are you kidding me? Theo must have been hanging with the liberals this past week. He's lost his mind! One of the worst trades in history! Paul , Lynnfield We still have Tito right? And the Yankees unload Contrares and get Loizza? I think that it had to be done as the chemistry seemed really bad with Nomar sulking. I can see Nomar playing 1st base for the Yankees next year. I really wish that we could have gotten Mota from the Dodgers for him.
