The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

Page 31 I was a Red Sox fan since 1948 until 4PM this afternoon. The curse is real - the fifth Hall-of-famer to be traded by this team. They will NEVER, I mean NEVER win a championship again! May they languish in baseball despair forever. Epstein and Henry, you jerks! Len , Springfield, Virginia I hope everyone remembers what Nomar meant to this team until the last 10 months. He is one of the most exciting players to ever wear a Red Sox uniform. We all should be thankful for what he has contributed to the Red Sox and their fans... That being said, chances are he was gone at the end of the season. The team appeared pretty listless since the beginning of May. A shakeup was needed. The Sox defense has been improved with this trade. Team speed has been improved. MAybe the Sox will rely less on the 3-run home and more on creating runs. The one big question I have is how well will Mr Francona run this team. TIme will tell. Bob, Bloomfield, CT Why r all u idiots from boston saying its a bad trade???????????..c`an u say defense???..can you say free agent next year??????..did you watch him in last years playoffs(especially against oakland??)..wow..i know im a bigger fan then any of you idiots who actually live there...no one takes cries more when this team chokes then me...trust me on that!!!!..but you people have to educate yourself...............if we can survive roger leaving and raymond leaving..im sure we can survive this.....the guy doesnt play hurt, cant play defense, numbers going down, nurses injuries to long, is a moody s.o.b....i say adios!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... Vince , Niagara Falls, Canada Bad, bad deal. Arguably the best SS in baseball and one of the Sox 3 best prospects for a slight SS upgrade over Pokey Reese and a first baseman that can't hit homeruns. And, oh by the way, Orlando Cabrera can walk away after the year too. Dave, Newton Trading Nomar for another Pokey Reese and Dave McCarty is a joke! What happened to Clement? An All-Star for two part timer-bench players is trading just to make a trade.Getting nothing for Nomar at the end of the season would be better than this! Daniel, Moosup Ct Williams, Orr, Yaz, Bird, and Nomar. I pictured him as a Boston icon. I thought he'd go into the hall of fame as a Red Sox. I guess I was wrong. The media, fans, and mainly the front office drove Nomar right out of town. We needed him to make the play-offs. I'm disappointed. Jon, Gainesville, VA I am digusted that a team built on the guise of tradition discarded a player who had the torch passed onto him by none other than Ted Williams. It is truly a sad day in Red Sox nation. I would remind Theo that it was the excitment of a young Nomar, fresh from the minors who brought life back to this organization in the wake of the strike that nearly destroyed the game. and it was he who brought the fans back to fenway. I love the sox--but trading nomar was a bad move, and I hope every fan lets management know exactly how they feel about it. Jennifer, Boston No. Nomar's presence will be hard to replace and you know he'll be back to haunt us... perhaps in the World Series... D., Medford This was a great deal. Nomar has been damaged goods for a few years now, and will never be the same after all his injuries. Remember last Sept. and October? Where was the quality Nomar then? We already have two cleanup hitters in David Ortiz and Manny. And watching all those errors this year has been disgusting. I've see Little League teams with fewer errors. And the error number is even more misleading when you consider how many double plays were not turned that extended innings just one batter too long. Jason, Cambridge I believe that it was a great trade. Nomar may be a franchise player but it could/would never be with Boston. He never got over Arod. Even the players on the team said you don't even know he is there because he never acknowalge that baseball is a team sport. All players go on the trading block. Frank, E.
