No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

So far, we get the highest ticket price in baseball, bullpen by commitee, Jeff Suppan, Kim for $10 M and now Nomar for a couple of guys that could not start for the Red Sox last week. The Globe loves the new ownership, maybe they should all be sent back to Florida, Baltimore, or San Diego.

Wish we had gotten a pitcher. Thanks for the memories Nomah. See you at SBC Park when your Cubs play SF in a few weeks. End of an era. Theo better sign VTek.

Way to panic Theo. One of the top shortstops in the game and a quality outfield prospect brings in 3 mediocre spare parts. Good job.

There are definitely times to make important changes, but politics aside, why trade Nomar NOW?? He may have left at the END of the season (the play-offs, the Series) anyway, but in the mean time Red Sox Nation would only have benefited from his presence on the team. Say it ain't so, Theo. Please! And to the Globe sports writers: please don't gloat.

Lifelong Red Sox fan here in the heartland of America, where everyone around me is-you guessed it- Cubs fans. I have always hated the Chicago Cubs, so to see one of my favorite all time players go to the local enemy hurts. I think we did a great job of getting a quality SS in return and definitely upgraded our ridiculous defense. I think our offense will suffer because of it. Maybe there's still something in the works for Beltran. In closing, here's my worst nightmare...Cubs vs Red Sox, Game 7, Nomar homers to beat Sox in 9th inning....and the curse lives on.

It looks like a bad deal for the Red Sox, unless the players they got are a lot better than they have been playing. Since I live in IL, I will get to see more of him playing for the Cubs, hopefully they will get him to sign a long term deal.

it scares the hell out of me . . . need to keep telling myself that he was going to walk at the end of the season and we were not going to get anything. not sure that these guys were the one's we needed though. we need more sox games on t.v. down here - can't get anything but nascar.

I think that the trade was the worst descision made by the boston red sox for a long time. I have lived in boston my entire life and and alot of friends and family of mine have doubted nomar but i have never. He has never had a dissapointing season and he was batting over 300. I think it is a disgrace to the city to let such a good player go and im not gunna lie that we yhave lots of good playes such as gabe kapler who are awesome but they dont get enough time to prove themselves. Maybe if they looked at the numbers they would see that its not nomar who needs to go. I am sick and tired of feeling like shit all fall when we sit through devastating losses but i didnt expect them to come as early as august.

First of all, let's give this man his due. I know there will be a lot of Nomar bashing on the radio, but this guy was a true professional. Let's not forget all the great moments he's given us. How about the '99 Playoffs against Cleveland? Hargrove kept walking him which led to O'Leary's heroics. With that said, he wanted out of here. Let's get some value for him now. And I truly believe he was a loner in the locker room. The guys will be fine without him there. Whether or not they can win without him we'll have to wait and see? Overall...decent deal. Thanks for some great memories Nomar.

Today I have officially become a Cubs Fan...Go Cubs.
