No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

THANKS Theo !!! This is a TERRIBLE deal for the Red Sox !!!! Remember Fred Lynn + Steve Renko for Joe Rudi + Frank Tanana. I understand you want to get something in return for Nomar, who will leave after the season. But what happened to Matt Clemente !!! The Sox need PITCHING !!! PITCHING !!! nothing ELSE !!! The CUBS WIN THIS ONE !!!

This is a very smart move for the Red Sox. This team was scoring plenty of runs before Nomar came off the DL and there's no reason why they won't continue to now that he's gone. They upgraded there defense where they were obviously very weak. Hopefully the team will come together now and play with more heart.

Hello, I haven't been following the Red Soxs like I used to but I thought Nomar was a very good player on the field. When I was a steady watcher before, "Nomar" always gave his all on the field. Let's hope this is not a bad move for the Red Soxs, and let's hope this trading of "Nomar" is not for persoal gain but what is best for the team. I hate to think it's another "Babe Ruth" story. Babe Ruth ? Yes folks, at one time the famous Babe Ruth was in Boston, back then the Boston Red Soxs was known as the Boston Braves. As history tells us the Boston Braves traded the "Babe" for personal gain. Ever since then the Red Soxs have been on that ever lasting twlight sea saw ride. thank you, D.

Doug, Lowell

I have no problem with trading Nomar in general. Though I love him, he's no sacred cow; but for two infielders both hitting under 250? How is that money ball? We already have a good fielding shortstop hitting below 250 so why do we need two? I don't think this will improve our defense considerably - nomar wasn't the problem - and anyhow Francona is going to keep on shifting and rotating players around and noone will ever be comfortable out there. Now he has even more of a difficult job b/c he has to factor in two players who are weak links in the batting order. What happened to getting a pitcher?

I think the Red Sox traded an icon, Nomar has been the heart and soul of the Red Sox and I hope that the players we got today help Boston, Cabrera is very popular here in Latin America but, letīs face it he is not a great hitter. I think we lost a great player today but as long as the red sox players play their best during the 60 games left, we are going to be fine.

This is the right move for the Red Sox, and Nomar too. For the Red Sox, even though Nomar's hitting talents are indisputable, he has been injury prone, periodically aloof, and has often a defensive liability. Last year we saw that this was no longer "Nomar's team", and when you contrast his reaction to the A-Rod fuss, with Manny's, you see exactly who is a better fit with the 21st century Sox. That said, we'll miss him.

I love Nomar like the next guy, but they had to get something from him anyway. He turned down $15m a year. We can't afford any more than that. Sure the A-Rod thing wasn't handled that great, but come on grow up. If he wasn't going to sign at least we fill our holes now. I know he was a good hitter, but our crappy infield has given up more runs than Nomar has produced. Granted Cabrerra has a weak average, but the guy has been playing in Montreal, Puerto Rico and every other hell hole on this planet. Douglas is a decent hitter who gives us what we need out in the field and Millar can now take Trot's spot since it appears he is out for the season. I know everybody wanted Clement, but it would destroy an already depleted farm system and maybe if we make plays behind D-Lowe he can pitch to his full potential. 4 More years.....vote George Bush!

Nomar is the Boston Red Sox. Not a good move. They aren't the same team. They needed to make every effort to sign Garciaparra and now they trade him. Very disappointing. Nomar's a throwbaclk player. He should ahve retired with Boston. Not a good move at all if you ask me. It'sa business but you have to take care of the players who take care of you.

This just shows that the Red Sox are still the most stupid and foolish team in the history of sports. What a bunch of clowns! Can anybody be as dumb? A new movie should be made depicting the Boston Red Sox history, "Dumb, Dumber, and Dumbest" (and the dummies that continue to have faith in them) It has never been the "curse of the Bambino" it is quite obvious to anyone that has left New England, that it is the "curse of the idiots that own them" Babe Ruth...Sparky Lyle...Roger Clemens...I could go on and on, but what the hell good would it do? Theo Epstien, boy wonder? Ha ha ha ha ha ha, I am about to puke! BOY BLUNDER! Pedro is the next victim of the Boston Stupid Sox, ( I think a name change is long over due) Nothing in return though, after all it is the only way they could screw that one up! Gezz, 11 years away from Boston, and I still can not believe I get angry at the moronic fools that: A) Attend the games, B) The idiots that own them, C) The Yankees for just falling down laughing at the Red Sox for making them perpetual winners D) Roger Clemens for being a great pitcher, that I was forced to hate for being a big baby and becoming a very great, "washed up" pitcher, My grand father was so right when he said to me in 1970, "the wrong team left" and "I was the only one to ever see the Red Sox win the world series", "they will never win another one, hell will freeze over by then" , "They are the dumbest team ever to play this game" and "Ted Williams didn't deserve to play for that ungrateful mob". Truer words were never spoken. The Devil Rays will have a championship a lot sooner than the pathetic Red Sox. So will the next expansion team yet unknown. Ha ha ha ha ha aha ha ha ha ha! (Hey, now that I think of it, the Cubs may finally win something afterall.
