No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

Is Danny Ainge the GM of the Red Sox? Is there something in the water up there? Did Theo and Danny drink the same drink? Keep Bill Belichick away from what ever they're drinking or Tom Brady could be the next one on his way out!!! Wait a minute!!! Bledsoe's already gone!!!! Should have gone for the pitching if anything. Had the hitting last year and sat at home for the WS. Pitching and defense will always win ballgames. My heart is sad for Nomar.....

I think Theo did well because Nomar was not going to return next season. Something is better than nothing. Haywood Sullivan would have sat on his hands and got nothing! Anyway, defense was the Red Sox greatest weakness and they have improved in that area. If you look at Matt Murton's production over the past 30 days, you will see outstanding numbers....so, I wish they didn't attach his name to the trade. But, overall, it was a good trade.

having not signed nomar to a new contract, the sox assured him of being somewhere else next season. how does alex at third, derek at short, nomar at second, and jason at first sound? nomar will help the cubs this year then take george's mega money next year. Good Luck Nomar. We will always love and miss you. You deserved better.

It's like you shooting your foot (not on purpose) and when it doesn't heal and is starting to worsen the rest of the body you have to let it go. I will miss Nomar and wish the best for him and Mia. Who is really to blame for Nomah's growing disdain for the Sox? Is it Theo, the Boston Media, the Red Sox Nation? Maybe a portion of all but when you combine not winning the ring since 1918 and the ever growing passion we have for winning, I have to believe Nomah couldn't withstand all the pressure. After all, he's human. Go Sox!

Though it was difficult to digest, the thought of Nomar being traded, it was necessary. The Sox must lead the league in giving teams four outs in an inning, which ultimately leads to unearned runs. We needed to address this problem first and foremost. Cabrea and Mientkiewucz will provide us with an excellent infield and Roberts will be a great platoon player. As for losing Nomar's bat, Fenway has made a lot of average hitters career 300 hitters, I predict Mientkiewicz and Cabrea will adapt well to hitting in Boston. Thanks Nomar of a great career in Boston and now I can finally utilize WGN on my TV.

Blame this Nomar deal on the league. The league blocked the deal that would have sent Alex rodriguez and magglio ordonez to the sox. Nomar was caught in the middle. I dont blame Nomar for wanting out....and praise Theo for salvaging a trade. In the long run..this deal for cabrera will turn out to be a good one for the sox...

Can u say gold glovers.Mientkiewicz best season in minnesota was .306/15 hrs/74 RBI. Ortiz best year in minnesota was .272/20 hrs/74 RBI's. Ortiz is left-handed, so is Mientkiewicz can u say GREEN MONSTER BABY. Cabera best year is .297/17 hrs/80 RBIS and 24 SB. We haven't had a threat like that outside of maybe Damon. Our defense is improved, our team speed is improved, OUR TEAM IS IMPROVED. Good riddance to the cancer of the clubhouse.

This deal was nothing more than the Sox getting rid of a disgruntled player. They fixed NOTHING with the players they aquired, and weakended our offense. We now have a good shortstop who can't hit 25 HRs and bat .330. Great move. We have 4 first baseman, none of whom are complete players. There were two ways to fix this mess and the brass did neither. One, make up with Nomar, negotiate a deal and sign him. He's worth it, and the league will prove that this winter when he signs with a team. Two, trade Nomar for a proven starter. We needed pitching, not more infielders to confuse the already addled brain of Francona. I'm a Cubs fan now.

Wow, Nomar will not be in Red Sox uniform no more. I really don't like this trade. The man represented and embodied what is to be a Red Sox player. As part of Boston he was a class act. I am very dissappointed that management traded their icon player for two hitting medicore scrubs. Defensively, they're "OK," but I would have probably went with folks with more potential. He may not have been happy, but I think management could have done better to help the situation rather than get rid of their main player. If the Red Sox make it to the playoffs or even take the division than maybe this is good move otherwise you have to question what is the Red Sox management thinking.

They are not better this year and who knows next year. If defense was so important why not just play McCarty everyday at first? It's not as if Nomar was a terrible fielder. Cabrera is a good player ( just not this year) but you probably could have signed him next year anyway and rented Nomar for the rest of this year. This trade now leaves us with too many role players not capable of starting everyday (but wanting to start) that will disrupt the team chemistry as much as Nomar MIGHT have been. Their defense is not that much better, they have more speed but a manager and team philosophy that doesn't use speed anyway (rightfully so after last nights blunder on the basepaths), the same pitching with poor middle relief, and a worse offense that has struggled all year to get the big hit. I hate to say it but this team is not going to make it to the playoffs where their pitching and defense might win it all. Then it will be time to blow it up and start from scratch. But we may get to watch Nomar and the Cubs win it all this year.
