No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

I can't believe the local media is saturating us with this " Good bye to Nomar" garbage. Truth is , he didn't want to be here. He hated Boston, and it showed. You could see how disingenuous he was during interviews and even his demeanor on the field. Nomar was bringing everyone down. Nomar did give his all to the Red Sox up until this year. I am very happy with the trade results. Theo got some excellent players to add to the lineup. Mienkewitz(i think that's how you pronounce it) is a very underrated player who will fit in nicely. Overall, i'm just glad to see that ingrate Garciaparra go. No man woman or child making 11.5 million per year should moap and sulk around like he did.

As a yankees fan, You would think that I would be delighted that the RedSox traded Nomah to the Cubs? As a baseball fan I am deeply saddened that he is gone. Maybe all emotional cords were broken when Lucchino and his henchmen backstabbed him by playing footsie with A-Rod? You maybe gone Nomah, but you will not be forgotten.

I always love when teams let emotion and short term issues get in the way of reason. Nomar was and is a great player. He just turned 31, which isn't young but isn't that old either. He's hitting over 320 this season with normal Nomar power. Apparently, the Cubs were NOT going to give up Matt Clement, but the Red Sox wanted to get rid of Nomar badly enough that they kept suggesting ideas, and eventually the four team deal was worked out. I've heard (they've had a few Boston sportswriters on the radio here, and it was hardly a secret before now) that there were bad feelings between Nomar and the organization, for a variety of reasons. Fine. But his performance on the field remains superb. He's played in 38 of 45 games since he came back, batting 320 with 5 homers. Tell me again, how many 300+ average, 20+ homer guys are there playing shortstop? So he doesn't walk quite as much as you'd like, we can live with that. You guys just traded away one of the top three (at a minimum) shortstops in the game, and got a mediocre shortstop who's only 16 months younger, and a middle of the road first baseman. Yeah, you improved your defense a bit, big deal. As a Cub fan, I love this trade. We upgraded from Alex Gonzales (an average shortstop who's struggling this year) to Nomar for essentially nothing. We're thrilled here, and can't believe that we got Nomar without giving up a darn thing. Keep having "personality conflicts" or whatever with your star players, we'll gladly take them off your hands for free.

hey nomar wasn't staying after this year anyways and at least they got something for him, so let this play out and see what happens...........

I AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE FRONT OFFICE JOHN HENRY ONCE SAID HE WANTED NOMAR TO BE A CRADLE TO GRAVE PLAYER FOR THE RED SOX I WILL NEVER BELIEVE ANYTHING THESE PEOPLE SAY AGAIN. THIS TEAM WILL LOSE ALOT OF FANS LESS TICKETS SOLD NEXT YEAR. NOMAR WAS TOO BIG A PART OF THIS FRANCHISE TO LOSE I DONT THINK ENOUGH EFFORT WAS PUT INTO SIGNING HIM.

I feel like I am going to throw up!! From Babe to Nomar the Sox cannot seem to find the art of the deal. At least we finally see where the problem is on the team. Not the defense, the management! Two below average players for a team icon. And to top it off the Yankees go and make a "good" move getting rid of Conteras. Will the pain ever end!!!!

Dave J, Easton PA

The SOX should have gotten more for Him and two guys who are below average hitters with good gloves. Plus I hate to see them give up Murton. They simply gave up too much to make it a good deal. From the SOX perspective, we do not know what kind of dialogue has been going on with Nomar...perhaps they had no choice and this was the best they could do....Sad fall out from last winters bumbling effort.

Great Move! Added two gold gloves to a weak infield and took away the NoArm liability. Nomar would not change his throwing style which caused errors. Go look at pictures of his throws. More like a screwball than a throwout. He lost his range. He was never a team leader. He was never going to resign at a realistic contract anyway. The best point is that the Sox management stuck it to his agent who is used to getting the Sox best offer and then disigenuosly shopping it around and coming back and sticking it to the Sox. NoArm was so full of crap when it came to staying in Boston. He could have been here forever, but no...He wanted us to be suckers and pay more than he is worth. Good riddence! Go see if anyone will offer you $60M for 4 years you ungreatful fool. GO SOX! Great move in getting ride of the Emperor with no clothes and No Arm!

Hurray, I'm for the other team! Go Cubbies!!!! What a deal. Nomie (if signed) will own Chicago for the next 5 years. And we did not even have to give up Clement. You have got to be kidding. What a deal.

You fans that are upset Nomar is gone, understand it was the fans that ran Nomar out of town. Once again you ate everything the press gave you and wanted Nomar out. Read he was a cancer and boo'd him. I heard you on EEI and in the paper. This is your doing so live with it. With that said, at first I didn't want Nomar to go but after some thought, this is a great move. Nomar was gone end of the year anyways. We now have 3 Gold glove infielders with the most runs scored in MLB (Nomar didn't help much here) and the lowest ERA in the American league. I'll miss Nomah, but he hasn't been the same since his wrist injury... Happy trails Nomah.. Go Sox Go Cubs..
