No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

Unmitigated disaster. Awful. Like selling your only son. What a mess.

This is like the "Babe" Trade. A home grown pure hitter and an All Star shortstop given away for a couple of 250 hitters. If Epstein thinks that is value then we need more than a new manager but a general manager also. Having had Achilles problems myself, he should have had that thing repaired last spring. It won't heal by itself. It needs to be surgically repaired which is where he is headed. Good Luck, Nomar, we'll miss you.

This trade might be good in the long run...but it just doesn't FEEL right. I know, I know, Nomar was probably going to leave anyway at the end of the season. But what are the Sox based on....HOPE. We all still hoped that he would stay. I can see where Theo and the boys went for defense purposes on this....but he's Nomaaah. He's our golden boy. I, like the rest of the Nation, have been left depressed, confused, and wondering where things went wrong. I feel like my girlfriend just walked out on me with no chance to say goodbye.

i have just heard the news of the trade of Nomar and i am stunned in disbelief. i have followed the Sox for over 25 years and now i am will not. this will go done as one of the worst trades in red sox history. i am very disappointed.

Junk trade, no bat no pitching. Absolute Junk.

I realy wanted him resigned, but if he was going to walk at end of year, at least we can field better at first base. But we are losing a big bat. We should have got more! Todd

Don't kid yourself. Normar and his agent started the ball rolling with the refusal of the $60 million contract in the off season. Normar was gone the minute he refused that deal. Don't blame Theo and the trio. Normar made this decision easy for them. Let's see how much he loves Boston. When he is a free agent, let's see if he takes $10 million a year because he "loves Boston so much". Yeah right!! He is going to the highest bidder in the off season. Stupid Chicago just rented a player.

I'm gvery lad he got traded but I'll still be rooting for him just the same. It's hard not to like Nomar.

i believe the red sox front office is intent on either a) never winning a championship ,or b) willing to sell the soul of their team(as in act like the YANKEES with their hired guns). how else would you explain trading one of the best players that they have ever drafted and who has meant so much to the orginazaton over the years just as this team is showing some chemistry and some heart . who knows maybe next thing you know they' ll trade trotter or varitek. i know the ultimate objective is to win the series and beat the evil empire . i know we only cheer for a town and a jersey . but you know what i personally liked seeing the same guys in the same jerseys year after year . oh well who knows what 's next maybe the sox will win the series and then maybe there will be another florida fire sale ,but who knows best of luck to nomar and may the sox pick him back up for twice the price in free agency

This is great for the team. The team can win without him and they will.
