No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

It was a good move getting rid of Nomar. He didnt seem to want to play here anymore. Improving the defense was also a good idea. We have made far too many errors to seriouly condend for a championship. However, not aquiring a starting pitcher via Nomar is a TRAVESTY and a sham and a mockerey. ITS A TRAVASHAMOKEREY! hhah but it seriously does make me sick. Well, theres always next season.

Very good deal, our infield is much improved defensively, we get a shortstop with some pop who can play everyday, as opposed to Nomar with a bum ankle, and despite struggling this year Cabrera's average isn't much worse than Nomars road average the last few years, lets see what he can do in hitter friendly Fenway instead of empty stadiums and "Home" games on the road in Puerto Rico.

As a Cubs fan, I am thrilled to see Nomar coming to Chicago. He is a tremendous addition to the team and we did it without having to give up one of our starting pitchers or top prospects.

To content11@boston.com cc Subject Nomar Trade This is just a terrible, terrible move. Nomar has been their franchise player, the heart and soul of the Red Sox for years, and they toss him aside from two 200-something hitters? I realize that they didn't think they could resign him, but why didn't they try? From the reports I've read, it didn't seem like he was asking too much. They had no problem throwing huge money around to land Manny, and they had no problem paying A-Rods huge contract had they picked him up. Why is there a willingness to throw huge amounts of money to players who had done nothing for the Red Sox, but when it comes time for Nomar to re-sign, they want to "correct the market"? I don't think the trade makes them a better team at all. Cabrera is in the same situation as Nomar, becomming a free agent at the end of the year. So they suffer a significant down-grade at short stop, and still might have nothing at the end of the year. Mientkiewicz will help defensively, but he's a career 200-something hitter. To put him in the line up will cause them to push Millar out of the line up, losing his bat which has been hot lately. On the days Millar does play, you're losing Kapler, who also has a much better bat. Their offense is taking a hit with this trade. But the most important factor in this trade is that they traded away their most popular player. Nevermind the fact they got almost nothing significant in return, their franchise player isn't there anymore, and its going to hurt.

Pathetic. And of course it's only fitting that we lose on the horrible day. Count me out, I'm done.

At last I get the monkey off my back. 50 years of rooting for the Sox has come to an end. This trade is abysmal. Two stiffs for a first ballot hall of famer who didn't care about his stats and was focused on winning. No wonder we or now they always come up short. I will actively root against this team; I will not watch them again and it kills me to say it i hope Nomar signs with the Yankees . They at least appreciate effort as well as talent.

Bad move, we want Nomar.

Worse trade since the loss of Babe Ruth. I hope they have something better than "No, No, Nanette" to fund this time. This ownership has no heart or brains, I hope they win their fantasy baseball league. I wonder how long the curse will last this time. I am guessing the razing of Fenway is not that far off. Well at least the cubs have Wrigley and Nomar now (best shortshop to ever play for the Red Sox). Go Cubs

Curse of the Accountants Our tradition -bathed Red Sox have become just another product, pinching dimes to keep the balance sheet balanced. Nomar was part of the history, along with The Splinter and Yaz. How could they do this? Heartbroken, Roy
