No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

Good riddance! He should have been traded years ago.

If playing here meant so much to Nomar he shouldn't have turned down the extension they offered him before. This trade isn't just Nomar for Cabrera and Mentkiewicz, it also allows us to lose Millar and McCarty next year and use that money, in addition to the money we would have spent on Nomar to replace him with another star. Wake up people, this team wasn't going to get it done this year anyway!

As a devout Yankee fan- all I can say is....... THANK YOU!!!!!! You shot yourselves in the foot once again. Is it something in the water up there?

Red Sox should have gotten better value but I think trade had to be made; there was no way Nomar was going to play for Boston after this year. Sox lost Clemens and Mo and got nothing in return; at least they got some defensive players.

alot better off-- he didn't want to play for the sox any more. at least we got two guys who can catch the ball. all people have to do is remember the great yankee game we lost --- he stayed on the bench like he was dead. if you have cancer-- cut it out

Although Nomar was a great player over the years, he had to go. He was not going to sign anyway, so it was time to get something for him. We deserately needed to upgrade defensively at 1st base and shortstop. Cabrerra is a gold glover who can run and hit. He was by far the best player for the expos who is also unsigned for next year. He drove in 96 runs in "01" and 80 last year for Montreal. I think he will do even better batting in the Boston line-up. And most inportantly, he is happy to be coming to Boston. Happy players = wins. Thanks for everything Nomar, but I think we will be just fine.

Nomar was Boston and the Red Sox. Unfortunately he was leaving at the end of the season. To let him walk away at the end without getting anything for him would have been a mistake. I am concerned about scoring runs however we did play our best ball of this season without Nomar in the lineup. If Nixon can return are run production will improve. Cabrera can field his position but needs to improve his batting average to be an everyday SS. Mientkiewcz is a excellant glove man but also needs to improve his batting average. I do not believe we need Mientkiewcz -- MaCarty just needed to be inserted at first in the late innings. If we would of gotten Clement and Cabrera then this trade would of been in our favor. Francona needs to manage the team as an national league bunt and run club. The addition of Dave Roberts means we can run but at the expense of power. The days of the three run homer coming out of the fith spot until Nixon returns are gone. As I have for so long I will ride out the rest of the season watching how these moves transform the team. Our we a better team today than yesterday? I have to say no. Our we worse off than yesterday? I have to say no. Our team has changed from power to speed and defense. Long Live the Red Sox Nation Nixon, Varitek, and Oritz are the faces of this new Nation.

I fully agree with the trade. Nomar was not only a disgruntled individual, he was not a clutch hitter. His batting averages reflect this.I believe the front office made a good mangerial move. Also, I didn't consider him a "great" shortstop, compared to the likes of Pesky and others. Go Sox.

I can't believe the local media is saturating us with this " Good bye to Nomar" garbage. Truth is , he didn't want to be here. He hated Boston, and it showed. You could see how disingenuous he was during interviews and even his demeanor on the field. Nomar was bringing everyone down. Nomar did give his all to the Red Sox up until this year. I am very happy with the trade results. Theo got some excellent players to add to the lineup. Mienkewitz(i think that's how you pronounce it) is a very underrated player who will fit in nicely. Overall, i'm just glad to see that ingrate Garciaparra go. No man woman or child making 11.5 million per year should moap and sulk around like he did.
