No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

It stinks. Theo should pack his bags too. Well he wanted to shake up the ball club a little bit. Well Theo half the problem with the ball club is all the speculating the media does. Once again it drove another star-fan favorite out of town. Nomar thanks for the memories, hard work , and dedication over the years. I will miss hearing....."At SS #5 Nomar Garciaparra," when I'm at Fenway.

I love Nomar but let's face the fact. Theo wouldn't have traded him if there wasn't an indication that he wouldn't sign. Nomar was an unhappy camper and didn't want to be in Boston anymore. In the clubhouse, he was never a leader - he never wanted to take on that role and that in and of itself is a tragedy (read: Jeter). Let's remember, Nomar is 31 years old, lacks the defensive skills of Cabrerra and Pokey and is an injury away from being a full time DH. I will always give him credit for playing hard and saying the right things but the harsh reality is that he is not the same player that he was in 1999. Before we fry Epstein - let's see which direction this team heads... this could be exactly what we needed. Godspeed #5

Jae, Brookline

Finally! Thank god this lame duck is gone. Anyone else notice the Sox started to lose games when Nomar returned from the DL? This life-long Sox fan says good riddance.

Is this NOMAR NATION or RED SOX NATION? Give the deal time before you judge. (Haven't we waited 80+ already)To bad they couldn't have included Francona in the deal.

Only move Theo Epstein could have made at this time and credit to him...He didn't trade from the Farm!!! 1st time HUH!!!! Last time it was Bagwell and we know how that turned out...Besides news reports has Nomar turning down 15 mil times 4- equals 60 mill guaranteed under MLBB Union agreements... Who the heck is advising this guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Overall I'll miss Nomar as he was an exciting ballplayer to watch and has great talent as a ball player and person off the field...TRUE Gentleman as they say. I wish him all the best always because he gave his best to Boston and the Fans...But this is the funky business side and nothing is guaranteed... Take the time you have and make the best of it as they say. Keep an eye down below as our future rests with Lowell,Sarasota, Agusta, Portland and Pawtucket for the future years ahead. You have to give Theo a chance... not judge the man on just 2 years of work. Took the Atlanta Braves 6-8 years to get the farm going and look what they achieved over the past decade. Hang in there Boston Fans because it will happen here...Mark my WORDS!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK SOX... I still am and will always be a RED SOX Fan.........

The fact that the Redsox traded Nomar and didn't get a qulaity starting pitcher in return is a joke. Theo can talk all he wants about defense but it isn't going to matter if the Sox can't score runs. Schilling and Pedro don't throw 1-0 wins anymore. Hopefully he will use some of the money they will save on Nomar's salary to re-sign Pedro, Lowe and Varitek.

no way. good luck to the cubs this year.

Nomar Quoted... "You can take the shirt off my back but you can't take away my memories"...That struck a cord..... I wish you all the best in your career and will continue to wear your jersey with pride!

Hey, trading Cabrera for Garciparra doesnt look so great now. But come December when Nomar left as a free agent and we're looking for a new shortstop, paying top dollar for a kinda sorta guy thats OK, that's where the value is. Then everyone would have been mouthing we should have traded him before it was too late!!!

Theo and crew I hope you realize that you just shipped off the heart and soul of the team for two men who can't bat. Thanks for making Nomar the next Roger Clemins. Nomar we love you and will miss you. Good luck with the Cubs
