No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

Get rid of the bum. He doesn't want to play for us anymore. If he couldn't keep his head in the game during the Playoff's, why would he during the normal season. Dump him!

James, Mansfield

Thanks Nomar, We enjoyed having you over the years. Welcome Doug and Orlando, your leather is sorely needed. Good people of the nation, as other have said before me, Nomar was not going to be a Sox after this season. We got something out of this deal and just maybe this is a chance for Nomar to shine again. Let's see what the rest of the season have in store.

ARE YOU PEOPLE CRAZY? Trading Nomar (even his name BEGS to be pronounced in Bostonian) is like amputating a leg off this machine call the Red Sox. He is one of our most consistant players, talented both at the bat and on the field. This is a HUGE mistake, and we just may have traded away what could be our best chance at reversing the curse.

I don't like the trade at all, maybe I'm thinking more with my heart than my head. Of course I didn't go to Yale for sports management... I went to UMass amherst for it, so I still don't like the trade. Sox didn't nearly get enough in exchange in my humble, non Ivy league opinion. The sick pit in my stomach is about Nomar still being a free agent at the end of the season, and feeling betrayed and scorned by the sox.... God I never want to see him in pinstripes..... #5 you'll be missed

Sean, Marina Bay

I have been a lifelong Red Sox fan and even though this trade does improve a very bad defense, I was disappointed that we couldnt upgrade our pitching. Lets hope for the best.

David , Bronx, NY

no, the sox made a bad decision when they decided to trade nomar. nomar is part of boston and when you trade him u end up dissapointing many fans. we all love nomar and its not his fault he gets so many injuries.

The sox could have gotten Mientkiewicz for a bag of balls. Minnesota didn't need him with Morneau ready to play everyday. This deal was Nomar and Murton (one of their top prospects) for Cabrera...how does that make any sense. Theo is a complete moron, what in the world was he thinking. He actually made the team worse at the trading deadline. If he wanted to dump Nomar so bad he could have at least gotten a pitcher back. And not only does he make this horrible trade, but he lets the Yankees sneak in a steal Loizia for Contreras...unbelievable. What a suckpot Theo is.

Gregg, Boston

Hey, I liked Matt Murton too! He was looking to be a decent prospect. Let's hope that Orlando Cabrera can show the form that made him a good hitter last year, cause at his current pace he isn't helping as much. However I think he can turn it around and make Theo look good on this one. Don't forget the money part of this. Would you rather spend 15 mill on 1 shortstop or less than half of that on a gold glove average hitting one. Then use that extra 8-9 million towards pitching. This could really help out next year

cubs made out like bandits we get two scrubs and we give nomar up with out getting a quality starting pitcher? i could live with this deal if the got clement but its a bad deal and it will come back to haunt them.

emac, somerville

The Red Sox tradition continues.......trading away our greatest players......but Normar wasnt' just a great player, he became an icon in Boston. I remember watching the 99 All-Star game....a touching moment with Ted Williams & Nomar.....I was hoping this California kid ended his career in Boston as well. My biggest disappointment is never getting to see Nomar play at Fenway Park. The heart of the Red Sox is gone.......thanks Theo. Oh....by the way......expect attendance to drop as well.
