No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

Time for a new GM and set of owners - yet again. What supernatural curse? We do fine on our own. Go get them Nomar. I just hope he doesn't decide to play second base for NY next year.

I burst into tears when i saw the news on Nomah on espn. I feel like theo ripped my heart out. But, I do think that the Sox will be better off. Looking forward to seeing them spank the Yankees again soon. Go Sox!!!!!! Beth Hazlet, NJ

Whew! I was a little worried after that last series. Didn't know what I was going to do now that the Sox solved Mariano. But this fixes the problem! Once again, you've taken yourselves out of contention. Thanks, Theo!!! I owe you one. Much love, George.

This is like putting your old family pet to sleep after it becomes sick. It's something you knew had to be done because of the circumstances but yet it hurts so bad to do.

I became a Red Sox fan shortly after June 15, 1977 when M. Donald Grant ripped my heart out by trading Tom Seaver. I started looking for another team to root for at about 4:30 today when Epstein did the same thing by trading Nomar.

It's a wonderful trade! I have the utmost faith in Theo and the Red Sox will now win a World Series! We are extremely tough on both sides of the ball. Sure, we lost a good offensive player, but we receive three players that can put the ball in play and make terrific defensive stops. The fact is, our pitching is now better, especially for D-Lowe. We have the 3 big-time pitchers needed to go to World Series and win it. Don't forget Bronson Arroyo and Wakefield either. Red Sox nation will find out during the postseason what a terrific deal this was for Theo Epstein! GO SOX!

I've been in Mexico for the last 8 days avoiding the DNC. I just logged on to boston.com to catch up on current events....When I first saw the Nomar trade I thought it was a joke. This trade is the worst trade I have ever seen in the history of trades. I have been a life long Red Sox fan. Today is the day that ends, Theo, you're an asshole. I hope that guitar thing works out for you because this GM gig is about to end. I hope the Devil Rays catch the Sox in the division...What's next, are you gonna bring Tony "the terminator" Fossas out of retirement? I am so disappointed....

Thomas, Somerville

We should trade Theo. To get Cabrera for Nomar is ridiculous. Meintkeiwicz for a prospect might be good, and the guy from LA for another prospect might be a good move. But none of these guys is hitting above .255 and we lost a future hall-of-famer who played his heart out every game. These guys might play good defense, but Francona will continue to pretend he is Jimy Williams and juggle the line-up from night-to-night to give Gabe Kapler and Kevin "35 RBIs" Millar maximum playing time. Maybe next year.

It's about time the Sox ridded themselves of this whiner! Now maybe the team will have some unity and focus on baseball. Things have gone downhill for Nomah since his marriage. It must be very hard for him when he realizes that his wife is such a superb athlete.

enough of the "I will never watch another red sox game again"..for those of you who are saying that..good luck and good riddance..you are no fans of the game and you are no fans of the red sox..if they were 1 and 161 I would stand by them..my dad an old braves fan stands behind them no matter how rotten since the 1950's..you are a fan or you are not..you can agree or disagree and pout and whine but never can you say "I'll never watch them again or buy tickets"..stop your whining and watch college lacrosse..in a word go away..we don't care...stop posting if you you don't care..leave the nation alone..bye bye you posers
