No more Nomar

The Sox have shipped Nomar to the Cubs in a four-team deal and ended up with shortshop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Are the Sox better off?

Good luck to him. Both Nomar and the RedSox will spin it their way, so we'll never know exactly when and why the relationship went wrong. But he gave the Sox some good years and some great play. If he'd been in top health this year, the Sox would have probably let him play the season and walk, but he's been day-to-day and it was wise to get some value for him. And we didn't exactly get a bag of doorknobs in return, either.

as a ny fan, I just sit back and watch this team do things that make certain year after year after year after year yankee supremacy. Long Live Nitwit Nation!!

Thank you so much Boston media for driving the best shortstop in Red Sox history out of town. What drives this city's obsession to tear down its heroes?

It's the pitching, stupid.

Gary, Redwood City

nope - they traded one of the better players in the league for two average guys. chicago made a great deal.

Eric, Chicago

We will not know if the Red Sox are better off with this deal, until the season is over. If there is a world championship parade in Boston, then this is the greatest deal in baseball history. Otherwise, it's just a deal that had to be made, since nomar wasn't coming back next year.

WOW...it will take awhile, for No-MAH in a uniform other than than the Sox". Lets all remember, that Nomar always gave his best for us...and I personally don't believe that he was dogging it, coming back from his Achilles injury... Pitching & Defense win Titles....Nomar's bat will be missed...but to get Solid Gloves at SS and 1B (and both these guys have some pop in their bats, when they're right)...and Pokey will be back shortly, you have solid "D" at all infield positions. This trade effectively got us a 3rd starter too (behind Pedro & schilling)..we'll see D-Lowe win more & go deeper into games, without being victimized with unearned runs. No matter how it plays out...have to admit that Theo has shown the Nation, that he has a Pair....

The sky is falling! The sky is falling! What's it really matter? This isn't going to turn the Sox into World Champions. I guess it's better to get something now than to get nothing at the end of the year. And if Nomar really wants to end his career in Boston, he can always come back as a free agent. Thank god for football season.

Let's face it, the Red Sox are known for making bad decisions. I'm trying very hard to see the good in this trade...are they better off? No. Nomar is such a great player and I think many fans feel a great sadness about this...not only will he be greatly missed, the Red Sox just won't be the same without him...

Heather, Brookline

Terrible. The Sox would be better off having traded Nomar for a Foreman Grille with bunwarmers. Thanks Theo. You just traded one of the classiest, most professional, most productive, and most important members of the community away. Go Cubs.
