The Sox have traded the two-time AL batting champ for two former Gold Glovers. Can the Sox make the playoffs with this new lineup?
Page 15 It is a very sad day for redsox fans. I take offense to Dan .s article in the globe. now if Nomar said he wasn't going to reasign period then thats different to a some degreee. The porblem with the defense was not short it has been 1st & 2nd base. we have better pitching then the yankees , we HAD an offense that could match theirs. It would have come down to defense and with Pokey at 2nd I would have taken my shot but now I don't think we will even make the playoffs. We went from having one of the best shortstops in the game to a good shortstop who wil have to adjust to the pressure of playing in Boston. Well good luck to us all but I am sad today cause Nomar is gone Lou, Richmond, VA Losers w/ a capital "L". Now we know why they always come in 2nd behind those Yankees tommy, quincy nomar's gone and derek lowe is still here. how can anyone in their right mind justify derek lowe starting. he's an awful pitcher who looks like someone who was just picked from the crowd to go pitch. he's a loser and showed yet again yesterday that he has nothing. one point i would like to make though about nomar is the whole "i love boston thing". well nomar if you love boston so much and the fans so much and thought you'd always be a red sox, WHY DID YOU TURN DOWN $60M???? i love nomar, he gave everything every day, but don't act like you wanted to stay, cos theres $60m arguments against that. seamus, dublin Well surprised no,disgusted yes this is one player Ive wanted to be in a sox uniform till he retired, but he never got over the arod saga and I blame the Redsox management for there colassal blunder....can they win they haven't yet this season and after last nights game it doesn't get my hopes up.......they need one hell of a winning street to get it going in the right direction. Sean, Londonderry,NH Yes, they can win without him. I predicted he would be traded to my friends in Boise. Oh no was the reply. It had to be done for a few reasons. (1) He was not going to extend or renew contract. I would like to see comment from his agent. Two sides to the story, Theo's and his agent. (2) Reduce salary to sign other free agents. Was management best move to let him walk at end of season and get nothing. I do have a few questions though (1) Why do they continue to think they can win with Wakefield and Lowe? One of they should have been traded to the Cubs for a starting pitcher. I am originally from Quincy, MA. Thanks in Boston only think of the name, not of the gain of two golden glove players who will improve a team that was terrible in the infield. More options available with key players at all infield positions. To conclude, the Sox would not even win the wild card with Mr. G. They created the problem by not obtaining Alex R. Hopefully, the trade will work out for the Sox, but it will be very difficult to forget a great ballplayer for two no-name players. Charles, Boise Of course we're better off... Nomar's attitude was clearly bringing the team down for quite some time now. Yes he had talent, but if anyone has proven that talent alone doesn't win the World Series - it's our beloved Sox. Truthfuly did you feel confident with him up at bat recently in a key situation? I think not! How many first pitch rally kills have there been... answer too many! I hope Nomar does well with the Cubbies, we all wish him well. In this age of sports, the only one's to feel bad for are the little kids that worshiped him. Don't worry, they'll all feel better when we win it all! The Olympics return to Greece and the Red Sox return to World Series glory.. Go Theo! Sosa, Saugus I don't get it? Improve defense? Trade an icon and a real good DEFENSIVE player for two 250 hitters? And then calaim we inmproved our defense? The biggest thing lacking was solid leadership from the manager. How many times have runners forgotten number of outs this year? How many times has there been poor communication in the field resulting in mised plays? This comes back to poor preparation and bad work from the manager. And then they justify the trade by saying we improved our defense and that Nomar would have been gone anyway at the end of the year and we needed to get something for him. What a joke. John, Orlando Nope, nothing can help the Dead Sox's. It's been what, 85-86 years of losing. Time for a massive change besides just the line-up. New pay rules, if you lose a game no one gets paid. You make an error, 10 fans are escorted to the build to beat you silly. If that doesn't work, disband the team and convert Fenway to Condos. Joe, Easton I hate to see Nomar go now, because as my 85 year old Dad says, he's the best all around player the Red Sox have had in his lifetime (Ted being a better pure hitter), but he was probably gone after the season. And I would have preferred to get some good starting or relief pitching, like Matt Clement who was mentioned. We should have better infield defense and a good defensive outfielder in Dave Roberts while Trot is on the DL. But is there any chance that we can trade Dan Shaughnessy to either the Chicago Tribune or the Minneapolis Star to complete the deal? John, Charlottesville, VA I think the loss of Nomar will hurt Manny more than anyone. I don't believe Tek or Millar provide the same type of protection for Manny. It is likely we'll continue to see situations where Ortiz hits a one out double, Manny is walked and Tek or Millar hit into a inning ending DP. Bob, East Greenbush, NY
