Red Sox vs. Angels: Game 1
Share your thoughts about Game 1 of the Sox-Angels ALDS. How many games do you think it will go? Who should pitch Game 3 for the Sox? Who will be this year's playoff hero?
Sox in 6
If his previous two starts are any indication of how Schilling will pitch in Game 1, the Angels really will have to step it up big time to overcome a dominant Curt Schilling. And considering Washburn's 2004 stats, as long as the Sox hit him early and often and keep away from that deadly Anaheim bullpen, Game 1 shouldn't be much of a contest (we all hope.) As for Game 3, no doubt Arroyo should start that game. He has been great in the second half and solid all season. I mean, you can't honestly say Lowe deserves to start. He has been worse that Vaughn Eschelman was in 95-96! I mean I'd rather have start Heathcliff Slocumb right now instead of Lowe. He might actually keep it close! And I swear to God if Bellhorn strikes out with men in scoring position more than 30% of the time he has chances, I will smash my TV! Get him to the bottom of the lineup and put Cabrera in the 2 hole!

Yankee fans will be sorry they wanted the Twins...Santana and Radke twice in a 5 game series is poison. Washburn is not the same, Lackey is dead duck, Colon is not what he was (Sox always beat him), and Escobar has never been here....Huge advantage to Sox starters...Angel bullpen will not get the chance to shine. Sox in 3, or 4.

Game 1, in my viewpoint, is a must-win game. Schilling-Washburn is a great matchup for the Red Sox. Washburn's ERA at home this year is two full runs worse than his ERA on the road (5.76 as compared to 3.76). Further, in his last five starts, he's 0-3 with two no-decisions. I think the Red Sox need to get to him early, keep the pressure on, and take their vaunted bullpen out of the game. The Sox need to win at least 1 game in Anaheim. There will be no coming back from 0-2 against this bunch - they are too fundamentally sound.
The margin of victory in this matchup looks to be razor thin just like Oakland last year. But the series could unfold in 2 different ways. Just because the Angels are so hot coming in and the Sox pitching has tailed off in the last 2 weeks, I say this thing is going 5 games. But if Pedro gets it going and Vlad slows down a bit, the Sox could win in it in 4. I'm not sure that will happen but I think we'll be on the edge of our seat in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday. If the Red Sox get through this series they should have all the confidence in the world to beat whoever wins the Yanks/Twins series. This is more of a coin-flip matchup. With the Twins/Yanks it's all about pitching.

I'm a HUGE Sox fan and couldn't be happier with our first round opponent. The Angels have just completed an emotional week on the road (No travel advantage). The Sox open up against Jarrad Washburn in game one. First of all, Washburn struggles mightily at home (ERA 5.76, BAA .289). Also, the Sox have beat him like a drum head to head. (ERA 6.10, BAA 293) Curt Schilling is a proven winner in the post season and hungry for a championship. I also think Pedro will rebound in the playoffs. Sox will either sweep or win in four. Let's go Redsox...Let's Go Redsox...
Ok, Im 30 right, So like everyone from or in New England, I have never seen the Sox win it all. It occurred to me that perhaps this is because I have never attended a Sox playoff game. I will be rectifying this oversight tomorrow and who knows, perhaps that one small exorcism for me will help the Sox go all the way. Schilling is going to mow them down. Someone send a foul ball down the right field line box seats and ill be happy! Ill do my best to drown out the Angels fans. D
