Red Sox vs. Angels: Game 1
Share your thoughts about Game 1 of the Sox-Angels ALDS. How many games do you think it will go? Who should pitch Game 3 for the Sox? Who will be this year's playoff hero?
I feel confident about this Sox team mainly due to the added pitching depth this year. Also, for the most part everybody is healthy. That being said, they have to at least split the games in Anaheim. Ideally, taking two would be the best scenario but that might be unrealistic. They will not be able to come back from being down 0-2 like they did last year. I would start Wakefield in Game # 3. I know he has struggled lately but I always prefer seeing him follow a fastball pitcher rather than another junk ball pitcher like Arroyo. Manny & Ortiz need to step it up this year in the playoffs. Ortiz was a no show last year in the postseason. I like Varitek to play a big part in this series. He's been up and down most of the year but I feel a big surge from him. Prediction: Sox in 5.

Pitching and defense wins this series. I hate being a pessimist but something tells me Millar is going to cost us a game defensively in this series. In a playoff game, an error in the 3rd inning can be just as costly as one in the 9th inning. The longer Francona keeps Mientkiewicz on the bench the more likely we will see Millar do something stupid in the field. When I say stupid, I mean something that just lacks any explanation. He's a disaster waiting to happen when he's in the field.

I think it will go 4 games, with Schilling going the 4th game. I feel that the sox should have started Pedro in game 1. It would have given him a tremendous boost in confidence. If he wins game 1 and with Schilling in game 2, its just about over. Pedro deserves that. He is still one of the best.----Ego comes in to play here. It probably gives him the boost he needs.

I don't no how overmantched the angels are, they were good enough to win the west and are coming on strong now. They have a ridiculous offense with Vlad, Anderson, and Eckstein. Their pitchers are good enough to win and once you reach the bullpen its lights out with K- Rod. I do believe the Angles will give the sox a challenge but the sox pitching is too good. I say Sox in 5

I do not believe that the Angels are overmatched at all. I would expect the Sox to win today based on the pitching matchup but when Schilling isn't pitching, I'd give the edge to the Angels. Superior hitting, speed and bullpen.
Schilling should win today and probably will win twice but who else? The rest of the series will be slugfests. Pedro....bless him but he is not looking good at all. I think Arroyo will win the other one. Sox in five. Hero... how about Varitek.

The Red Sox have a better, deeper team and should win the series, but anyone who thinks the Angels are overmatched is deluded. The Angels' bullpen is superior bullpen. They have Vladimir Guerrero, Garret Anderson, and an aggressive offense. A couple breaks could swing the series in their favor. I predict The series will go 5 games, with Schilling winning games 1 and 5, and Pedro winning game 2. Arroyo has earned the start in Game 3. I'll go with a longshot that Orlando Cabrera gets some big hits, plays his usual steller defense, and is the MVP for the series. Nomar who?

Playoff hero: Trot hits walk-off homerun to win game 7 of the World Series.
Game 1 is a must win with the Angels going with their 4th best starter against Schilling. I think that it will end up going 5 games. The game 3 starter for the Red Sox should be Pedro. Pedro pitches great at home and so-so one the road, Arroyo is the opposite. This year's playoff hero will be Orlando Cabrera.
TIM WAKFIELD WILL BE THE HERO IN GAME 4 WHEN THE SOX WIN THE SERIES. TIM IS GOING TO REDEEM HIMSELF FOR WHAT HAPPENED LAST - WATCH OUT YANKEES!!!!!
