Top 10 reasons ...

We'll be asking you for your top 10 lists all during the playoffs, and on the eve of Game 1 of the ALDS between the Red Sox and Angels we're kicking off with this question:

Name the top 10 reasons why Manny Ramirez should win the American League MVP over Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero. Be serious, funny, clever, or all three, if you can pull it off. Have fun!

......because it takes a lot of effort to come up with a different high five combo/finger point(gesture)/man-hug for every player and specific plays

MVP? No contest. Red Sox would have won without either Ramirez or Ortiz or Schilling. Angels would have been last if it weren't for Guerrero. No contest here.

1. hair, no contest. 2. no ties to canada 3. more extra base hits (singles are stupid) 4. "plays well with others" (more runs batted in, less runs score = likes to share) 5. more walks/better .obp (moneyball anyone?) 6. add in higher sluggling and OPS is no contest 7. more k's = smarter player. why run to first to get out when you can save energy for the postseason and head straight back to the dugout? 8. manny has only been caught stealing once more than speedster vlad (and in only 12 less attempts!) 9. manny is just absolutely hilarious when he forgets how many outs there are, isn't he? 10. jersey reads b-o-s-t-o-n...(or redsox), 'nuff said mcgreevey shouted.

10) Manny speaks English almost as well as Luis Tiant. 9) It used to be the name Vladimir was only found in a lineup of Russian cosmonauts. 8) Before this season, Manny thought that the word "DEFENSE" meant "let the ball drop in front of you". 7) Vladimir's brother, Wilton is voting for Manny 6) Manny is cute when he winks and points two index fingers at his fans, although he thinks it means, "you're buying the beer". 5) Manny helped Boston, as a Wild Card team, attain a better record than Anaheim as a Division Champion. 4) David Ortiz would not have been the same great player without Manny's performance this season; plus he had someone to talk to. 3) Manny's lifetime numbers are outstanding and, as Manny says, "They do the talking for me". 165 RBIs in 1999; 9 seasons driving in 100 or more runs; .417 lifetime OBP; and Manny has topped 30 homers and 100 RBI each of the last 6 seasons...in all of baseball, only 4 OTHER players can make that claim: Sammy Sosa (last 9 years), Rafael Palmeiro (last 8), Carlos Delgado (last 6) and Alex Rodriguez (last 6). 2) Both Manny and Vladimir were born in the Dominican Republic, but Manny's from Santo Domingo, "a better neighborhood". 1) Manny has his own website :-).

10. improved attitude. 09. improved fielding. 08. more hair. 07. longer pants. 06. fan friendly. 05. media friendly. 04. hits the ball a lot. 03. likes his manager. 02. pedro is talking. 01. MORE DOMINICANS ON THE TEAM!

Manny doesn't take roids like Sheffield, but has the power. Manny plays LEFT FIELD where most players actually hit the ball. Vlad plays RIGHT.. who hits it to right?

Manny has been the best player on the Sox all year and because the players know he's in there it helps them elevate their play. David Ortiz has improved the most with Manny behind him - he sees good pitches to hit. Also because of Manny being so consistent it allowed the Sox to leave players in the line-up that were in slumps (Millar most of the year, Varitek at times, Damon at times and others) because the team could count on Manny to come through. Also when Manny slumped it was a 3 game at most slump. Also his fielding is solid now and I wish announcers would stop saying he's weak in the field. As Tina Turner says, "he's simply the best!"
