Getting a leg up
Do you think the Red Sox have outmaneuvered the Yankees this offseason, or does the botched A-Rod deal still give New York the advantage?
We clearly outmaneuvered the Yanks with the Schilling and Foulke acquistions alone. While the ARod/Ordonez deal looked tantalizing on paper, I think Nomar will be the consummate pro he has always been, and will have a year that will make us forget all about ARod AND last Sept/Oct. And Manny, well...Manny will just be Manny. PS Kevin Millar, if you haven't already done so, you may want to send a nice gift basket (or two) Nomar's way this holiday season...
Who cares, too much is made of a dumb rivalry between too cities with corporate giants disguised as baseball teams.
The Yankees starting pitching staff is now pitiful and aging....while the Redsox acquired one of the scariest 1-2 starting rotations in history, plus 3-4 that could easily be the 1-2 starters in smaller markets. The Sox also picked up one of the best closers in the game, while the Yanks have only obtained over-the-hill outfielders. The Sox lost NOTHING in the A-rod talks other than a little battered egos from Manny and Nomar. I know we say this every year, but after the Patriots wrap up the '04 Superbowl, there is very litle doubt in my mind that this team doesn't have what it takes (finally) to win the World Series. Advantage Redsox, without question.
the yankees for once look like they might have picked up one old man to many(Kevin Brown)

Nah! the Sox can can and still will get A-Rod. If they don't what do you do with Nomore and Sally? DOn't get me wrong, I love Nomar and Manny but in the clutch how do they match up? A-Rod... is the best in baseball and still young. Baseball should have let the trade happen. If going from last to first and losing 5 million a year and getting a championship is not a benefit, well then baseball is blind. How about basketball and football when veterans play for the league minimum for a shot a the tilte? Come on BASEBALL! In the words of the Bad News Bears "Let the kids play". But in no way shape or form did the Yankees keep up with the Sox this off-season, the Yanks lost 2 of the best starters in the game in Clemens and Pettite, Boomer just had surgery, wow they got Kevin who? He was just OK a few years ago, will he be the man for the Yanks, I think not. Then they sign Gary Sheffield, dare I say Steroids like Barry? Pitching will always beat hitting and with Pedro, Shilling, Lowe, & Wakefield.. who got us beat?

Deal not squashed yet.. stranger things have happened.. I expect too see AROD in a uniform for the sox...
I think the Yankees have a slight advantage because of the younger pitcher they received as well as Sheffield. If the entire A-Rod matter has taken place, then the Red Sox would be better off.

The sox have outmanuevered the Yankees this offseason. The problem is Paper doesnt play the games and anything can happen. Who knows, Jeter was hurt first game of last season and missed some. Maybe this year it will be someone else and then this entire debate proves useless. Why doesn't Boston relax about the off-season B.S. and focus on the real deal. Because for over 80 years it hasn't mattered whose been in Red Sox!
The Sox have out maneuvered themselves this year. They made no impacting additions to the pitching staff in recent years for depth, just arms. They now have added proven success. The botched A-Rod deal just makes it sticky for trying to solve the up coming No-More situation at shortstop. They have yet to beat the Yankees for all the marbles.

I think New York still has the slight advantage, because of better management. Bash the Boss all you want, but he just wants to win. Lucchino needs to be fired.
