Getting a leg up

Do you think the Red Sox have outmaneuvered the Yankees this offseason, or does the botched A-Rod deal still give New York the advantage?

Short answer: Not really.

Paul, Medford

Botch!

John, Woburn

Of course we've outmanuvered the Yankees... and as long as Manny and Nomah understand that they ARE replaceable, we'll be on top this year.. Thanks, Theo.. it's about time we make the off -season exciting again! :-)

Mary, Arlington

We had better lineup before, during, and after the non-deal for A-Rod. Bring it on, I like our chances with Planet Manny and Nomaaaah.

Matt, Wrentham

I believe we have a pretty good team now without A-Rod. Nomar and Manny are capable of bringing us the big prize with the team we have currently in tack. But at the same time until we sign nomar the A-Rod deal could still happen.

Scott, Manchester, NH

Yes, Schilling & Foulke more than offset what the Yankees have done. If we ever manage to eventually pull off A-Rod & Ordonez for Manny & Nomar, it will only improve us further.

Mike, Marblehead

yes they have..... The Sox were just as good as the Yankees last year, if not better.. Now, we have added the best available closer in Baseball and one of the best pitchers alive. Regardless of if, or when, the A-Rod deal goes through, we still have an offense that matches the Yankees. At this time, our only loss, is Todd Walker. On the other hand, the Yanks lost their best post season pitcher, a hall of fame pitcher, a clutch hitter, and all of their stars with the exception of Jeter, are just getting old. They signed Kevin Brown, who is a pitch away from a career ending injury, Vasques, who has yet to prove he can play at this level, under this pressure, Gary Shefield, who will casue more harm than good.. With that said, it's December 29th and the Pats are 14-2, screw baseball!!!!!!!!

i STILL HOLD OUT HOPE. IF NOT, HELL, THERE'S STILL NEXT CENTURY.

PAUL, ALEXANDRIA, VA

whether the sox got rodriguez or not, there ability to beat the yankees depends on whether they play as a team up and down the line up, and across the pitching staff. i remember watching red sox games in fenway when i lived in boston and they had the best players in baseball, but had no team. the yankees had a team and beat them out of the playoffs. so, forget whether they got rodriguez or not and concentrate on whether they can learn to play as a unit. that's how brasil won the world cup two years ago. best players, yes, but also a team.

I think the botched a rod deal gives the yankees a huge advantage, simply beacause the yankees basically knew they were dead meat if the sox got a rod but having not getting the major leauge slugger breaths new life into the yankees during the off season and gives them a chance to make a big trade of there own and out outmaneuvere the red sox
