Have the boos really gotten this bad for Alex Rodriguez? Could the Yankees be looking to trade their $25 million superstar?
Please. 'Tis the season for unfounded rumors, and this one is a doozy, even by July trading deadline standards.
Still, you have to get a kick out of the rumors going around yesterday that the Yankees were weighing a deal with the Phillies, including third baseman Rodriguez and outfielder Melky Cabrera, that would net them Bobby Abreu, Pat Burrell, Tom Gordon and David Bell.
"It doesn't make any difference," Rodriguez told George King of the New York Post. "I would veto it."
King reports that a Phillies official laughed at the scenario. He fails to mention how any Yankee front office personnel reacted though, which admittedly could have been a tossup.
A-Rod committed yet another error last night in New York's 5-4 loss to the Blue Jays, already his 17th of the season.
