Brace gets the boot

Posted by Eric Wilbur, Boston.com Staff January 22, 2008 11:52 AM

To boot. Not to boot.

In a late-breaking development on the all-important subject of Tom Brady’s foot, it appears that perhaps things aren’t as concerning as they once might have been for Pats fans.

Page Six.com has photos on its site of the Patriots quarterback hitting the club scene last night – sans cast on his ankle.

noboot.jpg

From Page 6:

Don’t worry Patriots fans, what appeared to be a foot injury on Tom Brady early in the day yesterday was luckily not as serious as it seemed.

Yesterday afternoon PageSix.com was first to report Tom was wearing a cast on his right foot and limping home with girlfriend Gisele Bundchen. Later that night, however, the quarterback and his Victoria’s Secret angel arrived at New York hotspot Butter and the cast was nowhere to be seen.

The football star appeared to be in no pain as he sat on the top of the seats of the front booth with Gisele’s ex Leonardo DiCaprio, actors Lukas Haas and James DeBello, and a group of pretty girls.

That would be James DeBello of Dorm Daze 2, of course.

At this rate we fully expect our next Brady update to come from Perez Hilton rather than ESPN. Then again, maybe the thing simply didn't match his evening wear. Belichick would love that excuse.

  1. I suppose it's the norm for Sports Illustrated, ESPN, et al to go crazy with the pre-superbowl hype. I'm just sad the "gossip" types are getting into it now. Granted, maybe Brady could avoid the NY club scene for two weeks.
What next? Entertainment Tonight reports Brady and Britney to appear on Dr. Phil together to talk about their childhoods.
The real news is Brady's foot is probably fine AND there's still almost two weeks untill the game.
My hope is the Patriots players and staff don't get caught up in all this silly stuff.

  1. All I can say is I am a huge Patriots Fan and believe in Brady. It certainly would not fly if he is taking risks prior to the Super Bowl, so I assume he is staying clear of the dance floor.

  1. I think we need to consider the source of all this nonsense; the New York media and their tabloid mentality and all the schmucks who write in that city's rag sheets. They are so freaking pissed off that another NY sports team is about to be spanked by another Boston/New England team that they are grasping for straws. What a bunch of pathetic wankers.

    Go Pats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Look at Tom's life style, I wonder why I pushed my children studying so hard in the past. They should play sports to make living and also have fun instead.

  1. Why is Tom in NY? Is he completely whipped? Could you say no to Gisele if she said "pretty please?" Why couldn't she come to NE since Brady should be preparing? Or does Tom need to escape the rabid fans of NE to clear his head? It's somewhat disheartening to see Brady followed around by the paparazzi. Maybe he's just trying to 'get away' and relax with his girlfriend and now he can't because these tabloid nut-jobs are stalking him. At the very least their going to piss him off. He already looked pissed during the AFC Championship game. Something seems weird...Brady looked despondent and then he bolts to NY, Moss disappears after the game, and Belichick makes an extra effort to say the team loves each other -- that's a bizarre first. Don't get dysfunctional now, Pats!

  1. Eric Wilbur - Give us a break! Give us NEWS, not crap. I could care less to have pictures of Tom Brady walking in the streets. I have had enough of this intruding behavior on the part of the press - I do not need to see Brady walking in the street to understand that he may be less than 100%. Report the news and leave it at that.

  1. Hey Peter G, I am so glad that you can achieve your life's ambitions through your sports teams. I wish you continued success. Most New Yorkers are busy leading full and active life styles. Our sports teams are just another entertainment option in the vast array of cultural events, and educational pursuits. So for your sake, and the sake of other such situated persons in the great Commonwealth of Mass. and beyond, I say go Pats too!

  1. The headlines in a NY paper referred to Brady as a "girlie man" because of the boot. Tom might still need that aircast, but since it was getting so much attention and speculation, merely took it off.

Aircasts are most effective when you are putting your foot up anyway, so he can easily get the stability the cast affords, when he's home.

And it IS important, a quarterback's foot - this is Brady's PLANTING foot, dang straight its important!

  1. Everyone gets worried about what an athlete does when he or she isn't playing the game -- hence the Tony Romo comment. You know if you had a regular job and you hit a bar after work it would be called happy hour and no one in the world would care - in fact aren't lawyers required to have a cocktail before hitting the casa? If an athlete partakes it's worse than treason - go for it Tom you earned a cold one and your girl friend isn't exactly homely. But, do me a favor don't go to Mexico.

  1. Hi
I don't think anyone should care about this story. Tom Brady does not seem to even want this attention. Leave him alone and let him focus on winning us another superbowl

  1. Heck with the boot, I wonder why Tom is not spending time with his 5 month old son instead of his model babe? He has four days off? I am sorry that I thought he would be a good role model for my son. I am still a big Pat's fan though. One man does not make a team! Go Pats!

  1. I'd be more concerned with the guy in front of Brady in this picture. If you look closely -- you will see that this man's foot comes down on Brady's planted foot. As a result, his foot, I heard, was twisted so badly that he will not be able to walk for at least 2 weeks. Legend has it that the man walking in front of Brady is none other than Randy Moss.

  1. Come on people... think.... Brady isn't hurt! He let himself be photographed for a much more logical reason.

ITS A PERFECT EXCUSE TO GET OUT OF THE POINTLESS PRO-BOWL!!!

I bet anyone $100 he doesn't play because of an undisclosed foot injury.

  1. New York sports enthusiasts can be a bunch of arrogant cry babies. This year's Red Sox team was better than your beloved Yanks. Then after such a successful career with Babe's boys, Joe Torre is fired. Bostonians have far more class than New Yorkers. No one here is standing in your shadow. If Boston is so bad, then why do you send your spoiled brat kids here for an education. So what, your rents are pricier and you have Donald Trump.

These guys are Belichick robots. Maybe Gray cut-off sweat shirts should be banned, not wearing blonde wigs?

Beli- "Chick" is whom runs the show for all the Patriots players. What ever he says, all the player do. Now that is whipped.

  1. This is just another hoax like the Michael Jordan hoax in the playoffs against the Utah Jazz. This is just a set up for an excuse for the Patriots if they lose, or a way to put Brady on a pedestal if the Patriots win, because he will have led his team to victory while injured.

  1. Some of the comments made are just mindless. Get a clue! To say the Patriots players are whipped because they conduct themselves a certain way and the coach runs the show is juvenile. What are you in highschool? Discipline is the reason, not being whipped. You'll go far with that attitude. Someone else complains that Brady is just looking for an excuse in case the Pats lose or wants to be the hero when they win because he'll say he played injured. Wow, what an Einstein. You must have been at the front of your class. Who dogged him relentlessly and then reported the injury? Did Brady tell the media? No! The papparazzi won't leave him alone. They'll be there to report it if he breaks wind. People keep looking for reasons to justify their hate of Brady and the Patriots. You're a hater because the Pats are not your team. Stop trying so hard.

Can't they just admit they are jealous of what we have? The Patriots are going to kick the New York Giants butt during the Super Bowl why because our team is the BEST!!! GO PATRIOTS!!!
