Here's how that Reebok "Perfectville" commercial might have looked...if.
eric wilbur....being a dolphin fan who visits this website because my boss/wife is from westfield, and im a red sox fan (fla didnt get the marlins until i was a senior in HS)...i read your smarmy blog every now and then. other than the 1972 dolphins perfect season standing alone, still....knowing it eats at you, is my 2nd greatest source of joy in all of this.
those grumpy old men are pretty darn happy right about now. hope you have to watch that perfectville commercial clockwork-orange style for 1972 straight hours. the patriots tried to achieve perfection, they simply werent talented or determined enough. guess cheating cant win all of the games, can it? yep, the phins are 1-15, and still, with 1972 being held on high, at this moment, i could care less.
tell arlen i said hello
Kevin, that was a "Perfect" comment.
Most of you Patriots fans deserve everything you're getting right now. There were some notable exceptions, but almost every Pats fan I know deserves it.
The fact that Dolphin fans are clinging so desperately to the 72 season is mind numbingly laughable.
Your team went 1-15 last year.
Your team last won a Super Bowl 30-something years ago.
It is easier for Pats fans to get tickets to a Pats game when your team is the host.
As Pats fans, what we are getting right now is a perennial Super Bowl contender. What we are getting is the AFC East Division champ for the 6th straight year next season. What we are getting is the best QB to play the game since Montana. What we are getting is a team that is actually relevant. What we are getting is a team that does vie for perfection in an era where the rules are set up to prevent them from doing so.
I can understand why Miami fan is so insistent on holding onto 72. You have not been in a SB in twenty-plus years and the last time you enjoyed the fruits of watching a team actually win it all ... Pats fans have enjoyed 3 titles in the past 7 years.
If that is getting what we deserve ... please sir, I want some more!!!!!
3 Titles * + 16-0 Perfect regular season *
* video tape cheating.
I have never been so completely captivated for an entire season as I was with this 18-1 season, the winning of the SuperBowl would have the cherry on the ice cream, but it still was one of the best and I loved it . Even the years they won the Super Bowls I didn't pay that much attention until the playoffs.
Did the '72 Dolphins (17-0 not as good as 18-0) even PLAY a plus-500 team during the regular season ?
Stop living in the past. As a Patriots fan, I am willing to admit that they choked and the Giants are now the Champions. I wasn't even born in 1972, so I don't care about the Dolphins perfect season, except to say I respect what they did in a time when the league wasn't quite as competitive as it is now.
The Patriots storm the last 7 years is not unlike the Celtics. The Celtics were a dynasty in the 80s, and even suffered some terrible heart breaks while getting those 3 titles. They were relevant an entire decade, and the team to beat for most of it. This is the Patriots. They had a terrible season after 2001 and came back to win two in a row. They stumbled late last season, and stumbled at the ultimate time this year. What will make them relevant is if they pull themselves together and come back with more heart and desire to play the game then ever before.
Were you even a fan before 2001? I've noticed so many of these bandwagon fans since they became a good team.
As for history, I'd rather be a fan of the team w/ the history of the Miami Dolphins than the New England Patriots despite what has happened the last seven years.
The Dolphins, with only noteable exceptions, have always fielded a competitive team, if not championship (SB, AFC, division) of some sorts. They have never had the stigma that currently surrounds the Patriots and their run. They have never been punished by the league like the Patriots were this year. And, they will not go down in history as one of the biggest chokers in the history of sports.
As a Giant fan having to put up with two weeks of how the Patriots were going to blow out the Super Bowl Champion GIANTS it is great to see the whining and little respect you still have for the team that flat out beat you.
Your O-line could not match up with our D-line. Brady is human after all, especially when he is getting his butt kicked every time he faded back to pass.
The Giant's offense didn't even play that well, they let you stay in the game. They made a lot of errors that the D covered up.
And remember, you barely beat a team that had a one legged QB to get to the Super Bowl.
Too bad so many people validate their own lives by how their sports teams do. The Patriots had a wonderful, exciting season and they have much to be proud of as it will probably never be duplicated. The Giants won and should be happy of their unexpected win, hopfully they will stop booing Eli now. In the end it is a game for entertainment and should be brought into some kind of perspective There is such a thing as being a gracious winner, and a good sport if you lose. So many teams have never been in a super bowl, so just making to the super bowl is very, very special, win or lose.
Hey You Got Stomped,
Congratulations. I hope it feels good to go to a Boston market website and gloat. When you sacked Brady, did it feel good? Oh wait, you're just a fan. You have nothing to do with whether or not your Giants beat our Patriots.
Well, when you were turning the volume up on your 5.1 surround sound system, did you get a cramp in your thumb?
We'll see you next year. My predictions Pats - 14-2 go to the Superbowl and win. Giants - 10-6, and fade early.
Assummed the Win...tisk tisk......walk with your head low...your low-ley losers.
The new curse is on. 1918 = (Not 19-0) but (18&1). One Giant Loss.
It was a street fight and you got punched in the face.
Your QB loves NY. He hangs in NYC. He brought the curse back to the football field "the 1918" syndrome.
Your coach has a god complex. Your year will forever be memorialized by a guy holding a football against his head.
Comercials, Books about 19-0, what a shame you were not careful to tempt fate.
Hope you all learned a lesson, I did, It aint over till the fat lady sings.
Despite the fact that the Pats lost the game, I thought the commercial (both versions) was pretty creative and funny.
Congrats to the Giants on their Super Bowl win. They both earned and deserved it.
Looking forward to next season and another opportunity to get to the Super Bowl again.
Come on your Quaterback Gets a hair cut the night before the game? You guys go for it on 4th and 13? your team has been Cocky all year! What sweet vindication to see it come back on them in the supper bowl!
