Northeastern University’s men’s heavyweight varsity crew was caught at the line by Great Britain’s No. 2 team, losing by just six feet in the final of the Ladies’ Plate — the second event for international eights — at the Henley Royal Regatta on Sunday on the River Thames. Both boats set course records. GB2’s winning time of 5:58 bettered the previous mark by 5 seconds. Northeastern’s crew topped the mark by nearly 4 seconds. The only American win of the day was already guaranteed, with Harvard ‘‘A’’ beating Harvard ‘‘B’’ in the final of the Visitors’ Cup for student and club coxless fours.
