LOUDON, N.H. — Through his windshield, Jeff Gordon could see the look on the official’s face.
Gordon had a feeling he had pushed his No. 24 Chevrolet too close to the line at the end of his spot on pit road.
The official’s reaction was only confirmation.
“I knew we were in trouble,” Gordon said.
At that point, he was the front-runner in the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
But after blowing by the line ever so slightly, he would free fall 21 spots.
