About him: Laviolette, a native of Franklin, has been coaching in professional hockey for almost two decades. He has coached the New York Islanders, Carolina Hurricanes, and Philadelphia Flyers, winning the Stanley Cup with Carolina in 2006. Prior to the NHL, he served as head coach of the Providence Bruins, Boston’s AHL affiliate, with whom he won the Calder Cup in 1999. He played in college at Westfield State before spending 11 seasons in professional hockey, and was a member of the US Olympic teams in 1988 and 1994. Laviolette was named an assistant coach of the 2014 US Olympic team on July 23.
