After a two-hour practice session with his US teammates, Bode Miller, 36, talked about the physical costs of a 16-year career, the upcoming World Cup ski races in Beaver Creek, Colo., and his ongoing child custody battle. After several days of training and racing in the freshly snow-covered Rockies, Miller will travel to the urban canyons of New York for a court hearing on Monday. The legal battle between Miller and his ex-girlfriend Sara McKenna, 28, over custody of their 9-month-old son has also been bruising.

Miller’s celebrity placed the case in the headlines and, in turn, rallied women’s-rights advocates to McKenna’s side. Aware that the custody dispute has drawn attention from coast to coast, Miller contended that facts have been distorted and that the case “has been so blown out of proportion in the media.”
