Classified as a T43 double below-knee amputee, Pistorius actually competes in the T44 category with competitiors with single below-knee amputations. In 2004, he competed in the 2004 Summer Paralympic Games in Athens and came in third for the T44 100-meter event. He also qualified for the 200-meter and went on to win the final with a world record time of 21.97 seconds.
