Also on opening night, Yuri Prilukov of Russia won the 400 freestyle and Matt Welsh of Australia took the 50 backstroke in 23.86.
Australia's Lisbeth Lenton won the 100 freestyle, in which she is short-course champion, in 53.58 and also took the 50-meter butterfly.
"I did hear the world champion thing but you try not to focus on that, you focus on your lane and what you're trying to do," Lenton said. ![]()
