Shaughnessy nets APSE award

Dan Shaughnessy was awarded second place in the Associated Press Sports Editors' contest for his game story on the Red Sox' victory over St. Louis in Game 4 of the World Series in final results announced yesterday. Stan Grossfeld received an honorable mention in project reporting for a series on tobacco in baseball.

Linda Robertson of the Miami Herald was first in game story for her account of Lance Armstrong's clinching climb in the Alps in the Tour de France.

Other winners in the over-250,000-circulation category: Bill Plaschke, Los Angeles Times, in column writing; Mark Ziegler of the San Diego Union Tribune in feature writing; the Rocky Mountain News in news story; the Washington Post in explanatory; the Kansas City Star in project; and the San Francisco Chronicle in investigative reporting.
