Heat's Johnson out with concussion

Miami Heat forward Alexander Johnson is expected to miss today's game against Detroit because of a concussion suffered in a scary on-court collision with a teammate. Johnson was injured with about nine minutes left in Miami's 109-95 loss at Washington Friday when teammate Mark Blount's elbow accidentally struck Johnson's temple. Johnson was helped into the locker room, where he was conscious but generally not responsive. After an evaluation at George Washington University Hospital, he was cleared to fly home with the team . . . A woman who claims former NBA star and current co-owner of the Charlotte Bobcats Michael Jordan fathered her child wants him to submit to a third paternity test. Lisa Miceli also is asking a judge in Erie, Pa., to lift a temporary restraining order imposed after Jordan filed a harassment suit against her.

Lightning's Lecavalier to have surgery
Tampa Bay center Vincent Lecavalier, who was hurt Thursday at Washington, will have surgery to repair the damaged labrum in his right shoulder. Lecavalier's shoulder was dislocated when he fell awkwardly after a hit by Washington's Matt Cooke. Recovery time is expected to be 12-15 weeks, which means Lecavalier could be ready for the start of training camp . . . The Montreal Canadiens will host the 2009 NHL All-Star Game and draft at Bell Centre as part of the club's 100th anniversary celebrations. Bill Daly, the league's deputy commissioner, also confirmed the Canadiens have asked to play a regular-season game outdoors in the same week as the Jan. 25 All-Star Game . . . Jeff LoVecchio scored in regulation and Brett Skinner scored in the shootout to lift the Providence Bruins over the host Lowell Devils, 2-1. The win, combined with Hartford's 3-1 loss to Portland, gave the Bruins the Eastern Conference title.

Carr joins Tennessee as free agent
Cornerback and kick returner Chris Carr officially joined the Titans when the Oakland Raiders declined to match Tennessee's offer sheet. The Titans signed Carr, a restricted free agent, a week ago. The Raiders had until Friday night to match the contract . . . Cleveland Browns defensive back Kenny Wright was released from jail after posting $5,000 bail following a foot chase and arrest for a disturbance outside a police station in Pearland, Texas. Wright was charged with unlawful restraint, evading arrest, and possessing marijuana. Police said they were investigating an argument in the station parking lot Thursday when Wright, 30, took off and led officers on a quarter-mile chase.

Webb's Beijing path starts in Carlsbad
American mile record-holder Alan Webb will begin his buildup to the Olympics by running in his first Carlsbad 5,000 today. The 3.1-mile seaside course in northern San Diego County was designed 23 years ago by Steve Scott, whose mile record Webb took away last summer. Webb set the American mile record of 3 minutes 46.91 seconds last July at a European meet. Scott had held the record of 3:47.69 since 1982 . . . US softball coach Mike Candrea, who led the American team to a gold medal four years ago in Athens, has been selected to participate in this week's Olympic torch relay, which will stop in San Francisco on its way to Beijing. Candrea hasn't been told when he'll be running or where . . . Siblings Mark and Diana Lopez joined their brother Steve on the US taekwondo team by clinching spots at the trials in Des Moines.

Sturm drops Pittman in title defense
Germany's Felix Sturm stopped Jamie Pittman of Australia in the seventh round in a one-sided defense of his World Boxing Association middleweight title in Duesseldorf, Germany. Sturm (29-2-1, 13 knockouts) dropped Pittman (16-1) for the third time 36 seconds into the round, battering him until referee Russell Mora stepped in . . . Amir Khan floored Martin Kristjansen three times in the seventh round for a TKO victory in a final eliminator for Nate Campbell's World Boxing Organization lightweight title in Bolton, England . . . Canadian Steve Molitor outpointed Mexico's Fernando Beltran Jr. to retain his International Boxing Federation junior featherweight title in Rama, Ontario . . . Pan American Games sailing gold medalist Pedro Tinoco Amaral of Brazil was shot in the thigh and slightly wounded during a fight outside a nightclub in Rio de Janeiro.
