BASKETBALL
Heat guard Dwyane Wade, Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince, Bucks guard Michael Redd, and Hornets point guard Chris Paul will be on the US Olympic team, according to an ESPN report yesterday that cited Olympic and NBA sources. The four will be named to the 12-man roster Monday at a news conference in Chicago . . . Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said Manu Ginobili should "definitely not" play for Argentina in the Olympics if his injured left ankle doesn't improve. Ginobili hurt his ankle early in the playoffs and a recent MRI revealed that a ligament in his heel is about five times the size of the one in his other heel, Popovich said.

Bulls bring in Rose for workout
Point guard Derrick Rose worked out for the Bulls, and made it clear he would love to play for his hometown team. "It's a dream come true," said Rose, who led Memphis to the national title game. "You get to bring the Bulls back to where they're supposed to be, hopefully, take it step by step." The Bulls have the No. 1 pick in next Thursday's NBA draft . . . Antwon Jackson, who spent the last three seasons as an assistant at William & Mary, has been hired as an assistant to Massachusetts men's coach Derek Kellogg.

THOROUGHBRED RACING
Big Brown's next test will be Haskell
Big Brown's next start is set for the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park Aug. 3. Less than two weeks after Big Brown's Triple Crown attempt ended with an inexplicable last-place finish in the Belmont Stakes, co-owner Paul Pompa Jr. said the Haskell will mark the colt's return. Meanwhile, Congress chided Big Brown's trainer, Rick Dutrow Jr., for a lack of manners and the horse racing industry for failing to do enough to regulate itself. Then it threatened to pass legislation that would make the sport safer. Dutrow's no-show did not sit well at a hearing on thoroughbred racing safety held by the Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection. Dutrow on Wednesday said he was too ill to attend.

NHL
League, Rangers drop gloves in court
The NHL is threatening to kick the owners of the Rangers out of the league or force them to sell the team as punishment for accusing league officials of violating antitrust laws. The NHL filed court papers in New York that included a draft letter from commissioner Gary Bettman proposing discipline against Madison Square Garden, L.P., that could lead to suspension or termination of its ownership of the Rangers. MSG first went to court as the league was preparing to fine the organization $100,000 per day if the company did not give the league complete control over the Rangers' website and other promotions . . . The Hurricanes agreed to terms with defenseman Tim Gleason on a four-year, $11 million contract.

Abby Wambach's two goals earned the US women's team a berth in the championship game of the Peace Queen Cup in Suwon, South Korea, sparking a 2-0 victory over Italy. The Americans will face Canada tomorrow for the title . . . Germany beat Portugal, 3-2, in Basel, Switzerland, to advance to the semifinals of the European Championship for the first time in 12 years. Bastian Schweinsteiger, Miroslav Klose, and Michael Ballack scored for Germany . . . Sacha Kljestan and Justin Braun scored first-half goals to lead Chivas USA (5-6-2) to a 2-0 victory over the visiting Chicago Fire (6-5-1) in MLS action.

Federal officials have told the wife of Barry Bonds's personal trainer, Greg Anderson, that she's a target of a criminal investigation, according to a report in the New York Times. Citing an unidentified lawyer briefed on the issue, the report said Nicole Gestas Anderson received a "target letter" from federal prosecutors after Bonds was indicted on perjury charges . . . Sadia Morrison, a 26-year-old Bronx woman who was involved in a Las Vegas brawl that police say Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones incited, was found dead last week behind a Bronx building. She had injuries consistent with a fall . . . The Bears signed defensive tackle Tommie Harris to a four-year contract extension that runs through 2012.
