Just as the New York Rangers ushered in the Markus Naslund era on Broadway, they turned out the lights on the Jaromir Jagr show. Naslund, the longtime Vancouver Canucks captain, agreed to terms yesterday with New York on a two-year deal worth $8 million. In making the announcement, Rangers general manager Glen Sather said he couldn't wait any longer for Jagr to make up his mind on what it would take to keep him in a Blueshirt, so he went in a different direction. While Jagr doesn't know where he will play next season, Sather believes the star winger might be heading to Russia for a lucrative deal . . . The Pittsburgh Penguins signed goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to a seven-year, $35 million contract, the third long-term deal inked with one of their younger players in two days. The signing of Fleury, 23, follows deals reached with center Evgeni Malkin (five years) and defenseman Brooks Orpik (six). The Penguins also announced they signed free agent forwards Ruslan Fedotenko and Miroslav Satan to one-year contracts . . . Forward Georges Laraque, who played last season with the Penguins, signed a three-year, $4.5 million contract with the Montreal Canadiens . . . Veteran defenseman Rob Blake, who has spent 13 1/2 of his 18 seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, including the past two, signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the San Jose Sharks . . . Former Bruins right wing Landon Wilson signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Stars, his fifth NHL team . . . The Minnesota Wild signed right wing Antti Miettinen to a three-year contract.

Bruins draftee Arniel to face charges
Bruins prospect Jamie Arniel is facing an impaired driving charge in his native Canada. Arniel, 18, was arrested in his Kingston, Ontario, neighborhood hours after the Bruins picked him in the fourth round of the NHL draft last month. A Bruins spokesman said the team has been aware of the June 22 incident since it happened, but has no comment. Police said Arniel was driving a Toyota that zigzagged across lawns and hit parked cars, utility poles, and a stop sign. Police said a breath sample showed he had a blood-alcohol level 2 1/2 times over the legal limit.

Bargain shopping: Arenas takes $111m
Gilbert Arenas has agreed to re-sign with the Washington Wizards for $111 million over six years, essentially taking millions less so his team could have more financial flexibility, two newspapers reported. Arenas, who has averaged 22.8 points per game in his seven seasons, told the Washington Times and Washington Post that he was offered a maximum deal in the neighborhood of $127 million Tuesday, the first day of the free agency period. "[The Wizards] offered me the max, and I'm basically giving back $16 million," Arenas told the Washington Times. The Wizards cannot announce the deal until an NBA-mandated moratorium expires next week . . . Chris Paul and the Hornets have reached a contract agreement worth $68 million that could keep the All-Star point guard with the team for at least the next four seasons . . . In WNBA action, Sancho Lyttle had 15 points and 18 rebounds to help the Houston Comets hold off host Atlanta, 72-65, handing the Dream their season-opening 17th straight loss . . . In San Antonio, Sophia Young had 20 points and 12 rebounds, including a 3-point play with 5.5 seconds left, to lift the Silver Stars past the Sacramento Monarchs, 68-67.

Lawyer claims proof against Clemens
Steroid paraphernalia turned over to federal investigators by the former trainer for Roger Clemens will test positive for the pitcher's DNA, according to a court filing by the trainer's lawyers. The brief is the latest effort to dismiss Clemens's defamation lawsuit against Brian McNamee or move it to New York from a Texas court. Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte, who also worked with McNamee, could be called to testify in the case as part of McNamee's attempt to get it dismissed . . . Infielder Nomar Garciaparra (strained left calf) and outfielder Andruw Jones (right knee) will come off the disabled list today and join the Dodgers in San Francisco . . . Tampa Bay placed shortstop Jason Bartlett on the 15-day disabled list, a day after he sprained his right knee in a 7-6 victory over the Red Sox. Infielder Ben Zobrist was recalled from Triple A Durham to replace him on the roster . . . The New York Mets placed second baseman Luis Castillo on the 15-day DL because of a strained hip flexor.
