Longoria, Hart net last All-Star spots

Rays rookie third baseman Evan Longoria and Brewers outfielder Corey Hart were elected to Tuesday's All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium by fans in Internet balloting that ended yesterday. Longoria received 9 million votes for the American League spot and was followed by Jermaine Dye of the White Sox and Jason Giambi of the Yankees. Also, Colorado's Matt Holliday will replace injured Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano (broken left hand) in the National League's starting lineup . . . The Mariners released slugger Richie Sexson after a slump that lasted for most of two seasons and made him a target of constant booing from fans. The 33-year-old Sexson's $14 million salary made it nearly impossible for Seattle to trade the first baseman. The team also placed Opening Day starter Erik Bedard on the 15-day disabled list with stiffness in his left shoulder . . . Johnny Damon's injured left shoulder is still too sore for baseball activities and the Yankees left fielder is hoping to start hitting off a tee Monday in Tampa. "It depends if the swelling goes down," Damon said. "If it feels good, I'll start hurrying up." . . . Blue Jays outfielder Vernon Wells is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a strained left hamstring . . . Mets left fielder Moises Alou likely will miss the rest of the year because of a torn left hamstring, a setback that could mean the end of his 17-season career.NHL
Burglars swipe Lucic memorabilia
The Vancouver, British Columbia, home of Dobro and Snezana Lucic, parents of Bruins left wing Milan Lucic, was robbed. Burglars stole Lucic's 2006-07 Memorial Cup championship ring, several watches awarded to the 20-year-old, and other hockey memorabilia. The Vancouver Police Department and NHL security are investigating the robbery. Lucic is in Boston this week for several events, including last night's Beckett Bowl, a charity fund-raiser hosted by the Red Sox' Josh Beckett . . . The NHL reached an agreement with the Russian Continental Hockey League that temporarily ends the threat of players being lured away by big-money offers . . . The Canucks signed free agent forward Pavol Demitra to an $8 million, two-year contract to bolster their offense . . . Martin Straka, who turned down offers from NHL and Russian clubs, officially signed a one-year contract with his former Czech club, HC Lasselsberger Plzen.BASKETBALL
Warriors give Maggette $50m contract
As expected, the Warriors signed free agent forward Corey Maggette to a five-year contract worth around $50 million. The Celtics had been interested in signing the 28-year-old former Duke star, who appeared in 70 games last season with the Clippers . . . Kings center Brad Miller has been suspended for the first five games of next season for violating the NBA's drug program . . . The Spurs and free agent guard Roger Mason agreed to a two-year deal worth $7 million . . . Guard Dee Brown signed an offer sheet with the Wizards after spending last season in Turkey. The Jazz, who retained Brown's NBA rights, have seven days to match the offer . . . The Jazz (center Kosta Koufos) and Cavaliers (forward J.J. Hickson) signed their first-round draft picks . . . Ex-kicker Zendejas faces rape charges
Former Rams kicker Tony Zendejas was arrested on charges of drugging and raping a female customer of his San Dimas, Calif., sports bar in January. The Los Angeles County district attorney's office said Zendejas, 48, was arrested on felony warrants at his Yorba Linda home . . . Jaguars defensive back Brian Williams has been found not guilty of drunken driving by a Jacksonville, Fla., jury in a case stemming from a September 2006 incident.MISCELLANY
Pistorius tries again for Olympic berth
Double-amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius resumes his bid to qualify for the Olympics today in a meet in Rome. Pistorius needs to reach an Olympic qualifying time of 45.55 seconds in the 400 to make South Africa's relay team for Beijing. Last week in Milan, he ran 47.78 . . . Former PGA Tour professional and Duke Sports Hall of Famer Mike Souchak died in his Belleair, Fla., home. He was 81 . . . Greg Norman's divorce from his wife of 26 years came with a hefty price tag - $103 million. According to documents filed in Martin County (Fla.) Court, Norman's divorce last year from Laura Andrassy cost him $17.5 million from the sale of their beachfront home on Jupiter Island, a $4 million home in Palm Beach, and $500,000 worth of jewelry. Norman married former tennis star Chris Evert last month . . . NASCAR canceled Sprint Cup series qualifying at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill., because of rain and set the field for tomorrow night's race according to car owner points.
