A suburban police chief likened the conflicting accounts of an accidental overdose at Isiah Thomas's home to a "cover-up" and rebuked the former New York Knicks coach yesterday for saying it was his teenage daughter who required treatment. "It wasn't his daughter," Harrison (N.Y.) Police chief David Hall said. "And why they're throwing her under the bus is beyond my ability to understand." Authorities were called early Friday to Thomas's Purchase, N.Y., home, where police said a 47-year-old man was taken to the hospital and treated for an overdose of sleeping pills. Several media outlets reported that police confirmed it was Thomas who went to the hospital. But reached Friday, the 47-year-old NBA great told the New York Post he had not been treated for a sleeping pill overdose and it was his 17-year-old daughter, Lauren, who had a medical issue . . . The Portland Trail Blazers exercised fourth-year options on LaMarcus Aldridge, Sergio Rodriguez, and Brandon Roy, and a third-year option on center Greg Oden.

Browns rescind Winslow's suspension
The Browns rescinded Kellen Winslow's one-game suspension, but the Pro Bowl tight end will still miss today's game against the Jaguars. The team said Winslow will return Monday and that it has worked through its differences with Winslow and looks forward to his return. Winslow was suspended last week after he made critical comments about the Browns' handling of his hospitalization with a staph infection. He later appealed the suspension . . . Because of a requirement that minority candidates be interviewed for head coaching vacancies, the NFL denied the St. Louis Rams' attempt to rework a contract with coach Jim Haslett that would ensure him a job beyond this season if he won six games. Language in Haslett's contract refers to him as the head coach, not the interim coach. But Haslett's agent, Peter Schaffer, said his client has no problem going through the interview process.
