Meet the Perrys
Salem, N.H., High School boys' basketball coach E.J. Perry and his family have a long history in athletics and coaching.
Ernest J. Perry, Sr.(grandfather) coached track at Lawrence High track from 1926 to 1966.
Ernest J. Perry, Jr. (father) has coached varsity track at Lawrence, Central Catholic, Greater Lawrence, and Methuen high schools.
James Curtin (father-in-law) has coached varsity baseball at Burlington High since 1960.
Ernest J. Perry III is entering his 19th season as varsity basketball coach, and 11th at Salem. He was a basketball captain at Colby College (Class of 1987).
Louise Perry (sister) is assistant girls' track coach at Methuen. She played basketball and ran track at Fitchburg State (1988).
Tim Perry (brother) is a former football and basketball assistant at Malden Catholic. He was a starting quarterback at Harvard (1990).
John Perry (brother) is head football coach at Merrimack College, and previously served as assistant at Dartmouth, New Hampshire, Brown, Georgetown, and Hofstra. He was an All-New England receiver at New Hampshire (1992).
Matt Perry (brother) was a wide receiver at Northeastern (1996).
Grace Perry (sister) was captain of the Colby women's basketball team (1997).
James Perry (brother) is recruiting coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Brown University, and previously served as assistant at Dartmouth, Maryland, and Williams. He was the Ivy League Player of the Year at Brown (2000).
Family tale: Ernest Perry Jr. and his wife, Barbara, once watched son Matt quarterback Andover High on a Friday night, then drove through the night to Miche Stadium at West Point to watch son Tim quarterback Harvard against Army (he threw for over 300 yards in a 56-28 loss). From there, they drove to the University of Connecticut to watch John play for the University of New Hampshire. On Saturday night, they drove home to catch James in his Pop Warner game the following day. ![]()
