Clemens's medical records inspected

FBI agents investigating Roger Clemens pored through medical records from his former teams earlier this year, looking for evidence that he perjured himself in February when he told Congress he had never used steroids or human growth hormone, according to an ESPN.com report yesterday that cited several sources. Agents met with club officials and attorneys from the Yankees, Astros, and Blue Jays in the spring, reviewing medical documents the teams had and interviewing medical and training personnel.

Parkhurst to join Denmark team in Jan.
Defender Michael Parkhurst will play with FC Nordsjaelland of Denmark's SAS Ligaen next year, the Revolution officially announced. Parkhurst's four-year MLS contract expires at the end of the month and he is expected to join his new club in January. Parkhurst, a Cranston, R.I., native, will move on to Europe on a free transfer. The 24-year-old played his entire MLS career with the Revolution, playing in 115 matches. He was the 2005 MLS Rookie of the Year and 2007 MLS Defender of the Year. He was one three overage players on the US Olympic under-23 team at the Beijing Olympics and has four caps with the US National Team.

Real Madrid coach is given the boot
Real Madrid fired Bernd Schuster, two days after the German coach said it would be "impossible" for the two-time defending Spanish champion to win against Barcelona Saturday. Former Tottenham and Sevilla coach Juande Ramos replaces the 49-year-old Schuster . . . Ronaldo has agreed to play with the Brazilian team Corinthians, a return home for the three-time FIFA player of the year whose career has been undercut by injuries. The 32-year-old striker ruptured a tendon in his left knee in an Italian league game with AC Milan in February, the third major knee injury of his career . . . Lexington High's Diego Garcia was among several Bay Staters named to the NSCAA Boys' High School All-America Team. Also on the squad are Brett Conrad of Nauset High, Charlie Rugg of Rivers School, and Sam DeMillo of Williston Northampton School. On the girls' team were Erin Quinlan of Governor's Academy, Kate McCarthy of Loomis Chaffee School, and Danielle Dakin of Minnechaug High.

Ballesteros is released from hospital
Five-time major winner Seve Ballesteros thanked doctors and staff for giving him the chance to play the "mulligan of my life" when he was released from La Paz Hospital in Madrid more than two months after brain surgery to remove a malignant tumor. The 51-year-old Spaniard, who was admitted Oct. 6, will continue to be treated as an outpatient. "There is a long recovery time ahead and I shall keep fighting with patience and determination against the brain tumor that was detected at the beginning of October," he said in a statement . . . Padraig Harrington was named the European Tour's Golfer of the Year for the second straight time after winning the British Open and PGA Championship in 2008 . . . Adam Scott withdrew from this weekend's Australian Open in Sydney after failing to recover from a knee injury he picked up in a surf accident last week.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL
McGrath cops Gold Helmet Award
Trinity quarterback Eric McGrath of Lynn was named the Boston Globe Gold Helmet Player of the Year for Division 2-3. The senior threw 16 touchdown passes in the Bantam's 8-0 season . . . Wake Forest senior Aaron Curry won the Butkus Award as the nation's top linebacker. Boston College's Mark Herzlich finished fifth in the balloting . . . Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson has won the Broyles Award, given to the nation's top assistant coach . . . Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell isn't so sure coach Mike Leach will be leaving Lubbock. Harrell, who last week said there was a "great chance" Leach would leave the Red Raiders, reversed his opinion because his coach didn't fill the vacancy at Washington.

MISCELLANY
Pistons welcome back McDyess
Antonio McDyess has re-signed with the Pistons a month after being dealt to Denver Nov. 3 as part of the Allen Iverson trade. The Pistons announced that McDyess was back for the rest of the season, but did not disclose financial terms of the deal. The Nuggets waived McDyess a short time later, and he had to wait 30 days before rejoining the Pistons . . . The Mavericks announced that forward Josh Howard, who has missed eight straight games with a left ankle injury, will be out indefinitely . . . The Bobcats are close to signing 35-year-old veteran forward Juwan Howard, who had been without a job since being released by Denver last month . . . The Penguins will be without defenseman Hal Gill for 2-4 weeks with a shoulder injury. The former Bruin was replaced by Ben Lovejoy, who was called up from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL) . . . Three-time heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis headlines the 2009 induction class into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, N.Y. . . . Barnstable girls' volleyball coach Tom Turco has been named one of two National High School Volleyball Coaches of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Barnstable won its sixth straight Division 1 state title last month.
