Righthander Chien-Ming Wang had a setback in his recovery from a strained shoulder, making it unlikely he will return to the Yankees anytime soon. Wang’s biceps felt tender when he played catch and he won’t attempt to throw again until Friday. “It’s not exactly the news that I wanted,’’ Yankees manager Joe Girardi said . . . The Reds placed catcher Ramon Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list to treat a knee injury. Hernandez will have surgery today. He’s expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks . . . Pedro Martínez is moving closer to getting back on the mound. The Phillies righthander played long toss, the first step toward making a rehab start. “I’m ready, I’m ready,’’ the three-time Cy Young Award winner said . . . The Athletics placed struggling slugger Jason Giambi on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right quadriceps. It’s unclear how Giambi was injured, but he slid into first base on defense Sunday. Giambi had the lowest batting average in the majors among regulars at .193 . . . The Mets placed righthander Fernando Nieve on the 15-day DL with a torn right thigh muscle. Nieve was injured trying to beat out a grounder against Atlanta Sunday night. The Mets (44-48) now have nine players on the DL but general manager Omar Minaya said manager Jerry Manuel’s job is safe . . . The Rochester Red Wings pounded the visiting Pawtucket Red Sox, 12-4, to take fourth place in the Eastern League’s North Division by a half-game over the Sox.NBA
Cuban sued by ex-Mavericks owner
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is accused of diverting millions of dollars from the franchise’s home arena to help make up for cash shortfalls incurred by the team, according to a lawsuit filed by a limited partner company controlled by former team owner Ross Perot Jr. . . . Former Celtic Antoine Walker said nothing in a Las Vegas court where he faced three felony counts for writing bad checks and failing to pay $822,500 in casino gambling debts. After receiving an improved offer last week and taking a few more days to deliberate, two-time MVP Steve Nash notified the Suns over the weekend that he is accepting their two-year extension offer worth an estimated $22 million, according to team sources. The Suns had offered Nash a two-year, $20 million extension two weeks ago in addition to the $13.1 million he’s owed next season . . . The Clippers agreed to trade Quentin Richardson to the Timberwolves for Sebastian Telfair, Mark Madsen, and Craig Smith. The announcements were expected after the teams complete a call with the league. In Telfair, the Clippers get a solid point guard to play behind Baron Davis. The deal was also fiscally responsible for the Clippers. Madsen and Smith are in the final year of contracts while Telfair has a player option for 2010-11 at $2.7 million . . . The Hawks signed first-round draft choice guard Jeff Teague from Wake Forest. Terms were not disclosed.Golf

Tom Watson, 59, made a record leap in the Official World Golf Ranking, jumping 1,269 places to 105th after his second-place finish in the British Open. World Golf Ranking representatives said it is the biggest one-week jump since the rankings began in 1986.WNBA
Ford, Taurasi named to All-Star teams
Top scorer and rebounder for the Connecticut Sun Asjha Ford was named a reserve forward on the Eastern Conference All-Star team. Former UConn star and Phoenix Mercury forward Diana Taurasi, the league’s top scorer, was named a reserve on the West squad. The game will be played in Uncasville, Conn., Saturday.MISCELLANY
Roethlisberger accused of sex assault
Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been accused of sexual assault by a Nevada casino employee according to a report on tsn.ca. The attorney for the two-time Super Bowl champion has denied the allegations made by Andrea McNulty, who filed a civil lawsuit last week in Washoe County, Nev., stemming from an alleged incident at a hotel room in July 2008. The charges include a civil count of assault, a civil count of sexual assault and battery, and a civil count of false imprisonment . . . Authorities say former NFL star Steve McNair had a blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit when his girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi, shot him to death . . . The Boston Lobsters defeated the host Philadelphia Freedoms, 23-18, in overtime, as Martina Navratilova and James Auckland won the mixed doubles extra point . . . A deal has been agreed on for Manny Pacquiao and welterweight titleholder Miguel Cotto to fight in Las Vegas Nov. 14, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told ESPN.com . . .
