When West Virginia couldn’t make shots, things fell apart. When No. 2 Connecticut needed to seal the deal, the Huskies turned to Maya Moore.

Moore scored 27 points, including several baskets down the stretch, and the Huskies needed a second-half comeback to hold off No. 17 West Virginia, 57-51, last night in Morgantown, W.Va.

Moore surpassed 20 points for the ninth time in 10 games.

UConn (23-1, 11-0 Big East) overcame its second halftime deficit of the season to beat West Virginia (20-5, 6-5) for the 23d straight time.

Notre Dame 89, Seton Hall 38 — Skylar Diggins scored 14 points and the No. 8 Fighting Irish (21-4, 10-1) sprinted past the visiting Pirates (7-16, 0-10).

DePaul 77, Syracuse 61 — Deirdre Naughton hit five 3-pointers, matching her total for the season, and finished with a season-high 19 points to help the No. 10 Blue Demons (22-3, 9-1 Big East) beat the Orange (16-7, 4-6 Big East) in Syracuse, N.Y.

Men San Diego State 85, Utah 53 — D.J. Gay scored 15 points and keyed a 21-3 run in the first half that carried the sixth-ranked Aztecs (24-1, 9-1 Mountain West) over visiting Utah (10-14, 3-7).

Purdue 67, Indiana 53 — E’Twaun Moore scored 25 points and JaJuan Johnson added 15 to help the No. 14 Boilermakers (19-5, 8-3 Big Ten) pull away for a victory over the Hoosiers (12-13, 3-9) in West Lafayette, Ind.

Kentucky 73, Tennessee 61 — DeAndre Liggins tied a career-high with 19 points and the No. 18 Wildcats (17-6, 5-4 SEC) ruined Bruce Pearl’s return to the bench with a win over the Volunteers (15-9, 5-4) in Lexington, Ky.

Princeton 62, Penn 59 — Dan Mavraides grabbed a crucial rebound and hit a free throw with four seconds left in overtime as host Princeton (17-4, 5-0 Ivy League) edged Penn (9-10, 3-2) for its seventh straight win.

Harvard, which lost to Princeton last week, trails the Tigers by a half-game in the standings.

Bridgewater State 109, Bowdoin 108 — Nicholas Motta scored 29 points, including a tying 3-pointer with five seconds left in regulation to spark the Bears over the visiting Polar Bears in double overtime. It was the second-highest scoring game in Bowdoin history.

Michigan State and North Carolina are moving forward with plans to play a game aboard an aircraft carrier on Veterans Day. The game will take place in San Diego’s harbor.

“We wanted to do something unique that could be shown to troops worldwide on Veterans Day — 11-11-11 — as a sign of appreciation,’’ Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis said.
