Hornets’ West has left knee surgery

The New Orleans Hornets’ team doctor said star forward David West had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left knee and is expected to recover fully. West has been out since tearing his left anterior cruciate ligament during the Hornets’ victory at Utah March 24 and is not expected to return until next season. West has one season remaining on his contract, but could choose to opt out and become a free agent . . . Bucks center Andrew Bogut had arthroscopic surgery to remove loose particles and scar tissue from his right elbow. Bogut, who averaged 12.8 points and a career-high 11.1 rebounds in 65 games this season, was shut down the final four games, after the Bucks were eliminated from playoff contention . . . The Trail Blazers signed center Earl Barron for the rest of the season, bringing their roster to 15. Barron has played parts of five seasons with Miami, New York, Phoenix, and Milwaukee.

Bonds jurors deliberating for third day The jurors weighing the Barry Bonds perjury case spent a third day deliberating without reaching a verdict. After breaking briefly for lunch, jurors resumed deliberations, but the eight women and four men on the panel could not come to an agreement. Bonds is charged with three counts of lying to a grand jury in 2003 and one count of obstruction. Prosecutors allege that Bonds lied when he denied knowingly taking steroids and human growth hormone . . . The Giants have raised nearly $70,000 to help the fan who was attacked earlier this season outside Dodger Stadium. The money will go toward the medical costs and other expenses for Bryan Stow. The 42-year-old paramedic remains in a medically induced coma.

Dodgers place Furcal on disabled list Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal was placed on the 15-day disabled list, as expected, after he broke his left thumb while sliding during a steal of second base during a 6-1 win over the Giants Monday night. Los Angeles recalled rookie infielder Ivan De Jesus from Triple A Albuquerque to fill Furcal’s roster spot. Furcal’s injury wasn’t immediately apparent, as he stayed in the game for two more innings until Aaron Miles pinch-hit for him in the seventh . . . The Giants have decided to give injured center fielder and leadoff man Andres Torres a little bit longer to heal from a strained left Achilles’ tendon before determining whether he needs a stint on the disabled list. Torres already has shown significant progress since hurting himself Saturday night making a play against St. Louis. He is scheduled to take live batting practice before tonight’s game against the Dodgers . . . Yankees pitcher Kevin Millwood threw 75 pitches over five-plus innings in his second extended spring training start in Clearwater, Fla. Millwood gave up four runs, three earned, and seven hits against Philadelphia minor leaguers.

Serena finally gets back on the court Serena Williams grabbed her racket and got out on a tennis court, which she said was her “first day back’’ after a series of health problems, including blood clots in her lung. The 13-time Grand Slam singles champion and former No. 1-ranked player has not played an official match since she won the title at Wimbledon last July. Williams has not said when she might return to competition. Despite all of the time away from the tour, she is still at No. 10 in this week’s WTA rankings. Her older sister Venus is 15th; she hasn’t played since January because of a hip injury . . . Roger Federer started his clay-court season by dispatching Philipp Kohlschreiber, 6-2, 6-1, at the Monte Carlo Masters in Monaco. Ivan Ljubicic defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, while Milos Raonic downed Ernests Gulbis, 6-4, 7-5. Tomas Berdych defeated Olivier Rochus, 6-2, 6-3, to set up a match against Ljubicic. Top-ranked Rafael Nadal plays Jarkko Nieminen today

Beckham considers returning to MLS David Beckham says there’s a chance he will return to Major League Soccer after this season. Beckham’s five-year contract with the Galaxy expires after this season, but the midfielder said he may play another year, and he wants to be involved with the England team at the 2012 London Olympics . . . Meineke Car Care is taking over as title sponsor of the Texas Bowl, announcing a three-year deal with ESPN Regional Television. The game matches a Big 12 team against a Big Ten team each December at Reliant Stadium in Houston . . . Former pro football star Lawrence Taylor, who pleaded guilty in January to sexual misconduct and patronizing a 16-year-old prostitute, was declared a low-risk sex offender, meaning there will be no photo of the former New York Giants linebacker on public online sex-offender registries . . . Double-amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius is closing in on the top 400-meter qualifying standard of 45.25 seconds for the track and field World Championships this summer. He recently finished in a personal-best time of 45.61 during a race in South Africa and will race against Olympic gold medalist Jeremy Wariner at the Adidas Grand Prix meet in New York June 11 . . . Kentucky Derby contender Uncle Mo had a thorough physical exam after a disappointing run in the Wood Memorial, in which the unbeaten Breeders’ Cup juvenile winner was passed by Toby’s Corner and Arthur’s Tale in the stretch at Aqueduct to finish third. Trainer Todd Pletcher said the 3-year-old colt came out fine.
