Peterson allowed to keep IBF title

SPRINGFIELD, N.J.—The International Boxing Federation will allow Lamont Peterson to keep his junior welterweight title despite a failed drug test and has ordered him to fight Zab Judah in a mandatory title defense.

Peterson had a positive urine test in March for high levels of synthetic testosterone, prompting Nevada boxing regulators to cancel what would have been a rematch against Amir Khan with Peterson's WBA and IBF junior welterweight titles at stake.

The IBF said Friday that an independent physician examined Peterson's medical records, and determined the testosterone levels were "consistent with the therapeutic use of the hormone and not for the purpose of performance enhancement."

"I'm thankful and I'm thrilled with the IBF's decision," said Peterson, 30-1-1 with 15 knockouts.
