Johnny Pesky, in the clubhouse watching the Mariners play the Red Sox at Fenway Park Thursday. Pesky can no longer watch from the bench because of baseball’s strict enforcement this year of rules governing the number of uniformed personnel allowed in the dugout:

“I’m thinking, I wish I was on the bench, but it’s not going to happen because of a silly rule. I still want to watch the ballgame, and I watch television a lot. As long as I can come in and sit around, it’s fine. I feel as though I belong there because I’ve been there all these years. I took it as a personal affront. I mean, it’s a rule, and I’m going to abid by the rules. I never broke any rules as a player and I don’t intend to start breaking them now.”
