Magic on the Mystic River
Boston.com
The Mystic, once the home of the first schooner built by Governor Winthrop in 1631, and later a clipper ship building industry, has been industrialized and polluted since the mid 19th century. The lower Mystic is especially heavily industrialized and the river’s sediments contain centuries of misuse including lead, petroleum and arsenic. It’s been dammed to prevent flooding and it's been damned by misuse.
